Futaba CGY750 FBL install & review
Really pleased to get my hands on one of the much anticipated Futaba CGY750 FBL system - I have already used the GY701 gyro/gov and been very happy with the smooth, no-fuss, install and control of this unit - hoped the GY750 would prove as easy to use and efficient in the air.
The new sensors on the 701/750 are supposed to be latest generation and most vibe resistant utilising hard-mounted sensors so I thought it would be ideal on my first FBL nitro heli - had a Kasama Srimok ECO lying on the shelf for a while now begging to be built so I thought I'd match the two up - build vids of the ECO coming soon. I also thought I'd use the T8FG for the setup for those interested how this pocket rocket trannie matches up to the 750 - I'm no Bobby Watts and I'd thoroughly recommend Bobby's vids on the subject but this is my record of my personal experience on installing, setting up and flying Video 1 - CGY 750 - Installation - wmv - 64MB Video 2 - CGY 750 - Swash setup - wmv -122MB Video 3 - CGY750 - Setting swash level and range of collective/cyclic travel - wmv - 120MB Video 4 - Gyro gain setting on CGY750 using T8FG - wmv 188MB

Nice Vids John, I think it's better than Bobby Watt's because he didn't take things in the right order as you did for setup
One comment, if you want to use gov you have to select "Gyro + gov" mode instead of "Gyro + THR" but I'm sure you figured that one out later.

I like it a lot - it is elegant and simple to set up - I like not having to take a laptop to the field. It is early days in learning its use - although it will fly very well out of the box there is no doubt that 3D and F3C fliers will want to start tweaking the Exper menus - I am going through this at present

Next up I showed adjusting mechanical links to make the swash level after setting servo arms square using the Basic SwashMenu Ail/Pitch/Ele Ntr settings. THe swash is levelled using the servo to swash links and then the grips are zeroed.
The range of swash collective movement is checked to make sure it stays level at high and low stick (it did - on JR/Spektrum radios swash end travel is dialled out with servo endpoints whereas on the Futaba it's using Pit-AIl and Pit-Ele mixes from the Swash Expert menu - I will cover this in a later vid. Amount of cyclic and collective is set using the Pit/Ail/Ele servo rates which default at 50% and are adjusted in similar manner to a swash AFR on a FB heli. Uneven left-Right or Forward-Back cyclic movements can also be dialled out using the Expert Swash menu linkage compensation settings - again a job for another day Video 3 - Futaba CGY750 - Setting swash level and range of collective/cyclic travel - wmv - 120MB

Setting up the gyro gain and switching using the T8FG transmitter can be found here:

Starting to get in tuned in - reduced the piro rate to 540 in the rudder expert menu, bumped up the rudder gain to 95 and increased aileron/elevator rate in the expert menus to 115%.
Tail very locked in and has a very nice feel to it - feels like you're flying it which gives good satisfaction but has a nice well behaved feel to it

Hi Mercuriell
I am fitting one of these to a TREX 600 and am having one hell of a problem installing the sensor. I have given up for the moment - any tips please. Regards Paul |

What sort of problems are you having ? Main thing is to hard mount (ie thin tape like that supplied) and exact orientation - square with mast and frame.

CGY 750 requires very latest Tx
I purchased a Futaba 10CGH last year and am dissapointed to find out that the CGY750 will not work with the 10CGH as an update is required for the Tx and of course this model is NOT updatable.
I now have to decide to return the CGY750 to my supplier or purchase a 8FG Tx and update it to Ver 3.0 Firmware. :-( |

Don't worry, the 10 does work with the 750, the only restriction is you cannot adjust cyclic gains in the radio and you have to do it from the unit. No big deal, once set you shouldn't have to touch the gains again.
You do need a sbus rx regardless of the tx though Not a reason to toss te tx or unit. If you just look for a pretext to get a 8FG it's fine though

The 10 DOES work with the 750. I use a 10C, and I have 3x CGY750. Whoever told you it doesnt, is either talking out their rear end, or lying to make a sale. Keep your 10C mate.

Gorn is absolutely right - the 10C works fine with the 750 - you can set the gyro gains manually on the 750 quite easily - possibly in normal mode first for a trim flight then in AVCS mode for flight - the 750 fly great in normal mode BTW. I don't see why you shouldn't allocate the gyro gains AIL/ELE to two channels on the `10C - say 8/9 or 9/10 then dedicate the end-points to slider or rotary controls - you can check the actual gain by just looking at the opening screen on the 750.
