Problem! Esc or Motor? Please help
Hey guys! I was testing my heli after a crash and I noticed that when I give some throttle the heli starts going up, than I bring the throttle stick down and up quick the motor lags. It's like if the motor looses RPM. I am thinking it's the motor, what do you guys think?

i think your pinon is loss check that first. I got the scorpin mod with the grub nut and I have never had a problem since. if you do get the pinions you'll have to put it down a little so it clears the motor plate but it will not mess with the mess I have over 75 flights on mine this way and it's still going strong

try to reprogram your esc then set the throttle resopnse to high. Then see if it responds better to quick throttle inputs.

LOL I'll give that a try but I dought it's gonna fix the problem, these are the same settings I had before with out any problem. If I get the scorpion (which I been wanting too for some time) should I replace the connectosr from the motor to match the align esc or should I change the esc one?

but I would put the scorpin connectors on the esc and they are done factory on the new motor.

Dumb question... that wouldn't be your throttle curve programming reducing the rpm of the motor would it? Switched from idle up to normal mode or something like that when rebuilding?
Or is it that the change in pitch is causing the rpm to dip? Would that not be normal given the extra force on the blades? Are you sure it was not doing it before the crash? |

I actually did a test bench by removing the swash plate and running the motor. What I noticed is that when I give full throttle and than bring the throttle stick back up there is a delay in the RPMs, it takes a second for the motor to catch up. These are my setting Normal 40 45 50 75 100 it has always worked.

check the one way bearing, probably slipping. Other than that reprogram the ESC, it might be the soft start playing tricks on you.
Throw it in to idle up and see if it behaves the same way. if it does then the OWB is suspect.

I have tested the motor just by itself and it's behaving the same way.

work the ESC, do you do this in normal mode or Idle up?
the ESC will take the full down/off throttle position as a reset of the softstart function, thus it will take a bit to ramp its power back up. Re setup the ESC settings and re-bind the Rx, check your sub-trim/ATV range and make sure it is at 100 for the upper and lower points. the Soft Start is where I think your isue lies, if this is not it then the ESC is going bad. DO you have another motor to test it with? or perhaps another ESC to test the motor? Please note that the ESC can lose its memory and may have its settings scrambled.

Dude my motor just gave out on my 450 but thank the heli gods i didnt crah. So I guess we are both having bad luck this week, two of the gilt connectors broke off from my motor and were just being held in place by zip ties and shrink wrap. When I took the motor out of the heli I was in shock

Ok I think the problem is the ESC. I did a quick test and instead choosing the soft start for heli I went ahead and selected airplane mode which is the quick start. With the airplane mode my rmp are constant but as soon has change back the esc settings and choose soft start my RPM will drop and cause a one second delay in getting up to speed. Why? This was never a problem before. ESC is dying?

if you crashed it.It very well could be damaged.

The ESC, when soft start is enabled, will have a delay in ramping up the motors RPM's, when you take the throttle to 0 (low stick), it basically resets the ESC. So when you might take the throttle to a stick position the ESC is resetting the soft start function. The trick is to not take the Throttle to 0, if you are not taking the throttle to 0 then the ESC could be bad. My ESC's do this too. I usually fly in idle up and this avoids the soft start reset since my throttle never reaches the threshold to trigger it. Try this first; Have you reprogrammed the ESC's settings? all of them? Change them to something else, another setting, and then put them back to what you want. Make sure the Tx endpoints for the throttle channel are at 100 and the trims are centered then rebind the Rx. This will re-write the ESC memory locations and overwrite any bad data that might be in there. When this is done, power it all down and then back up again, do not use throttle hold yet. See if the ESC initializes and you have control over the motor. If not then adjust the lower throttle endpoint until it initializes. When this is done, rebind one more time. After this is done retest. If this works then all is good, if not then try another ESC.
