Default Spektrum Satellite Wires -Why so Wimpy?

the only issues I have ever had with Vbar was due to checksum errors, one time it was static from a belt drive tail (corrected by grounding the boom to the motor mount) Two other times it was due to a bad spektrum satellite wire, they always seam to come apart at the connector. Im wondering why they dont make a nice beefy enclosed wire or why dont an after market company do something similar? Seams there is a market for it.

1- so you will pay 8.95 USD for a 6 inch piece of wire

You have a point about their toughness, the connector is straight from PC hardware, commonly used on cooling fans. Maybe someone out there makes a heavy-duty version.

In a word price.

The small jst and similar connectors are crap if you need to continually be making and breaking the connection. The same problem also exists for LiPo balance plugs. They really are designed for one go and leave it be. I have found the connection can go high resistance which for radio gear is not going to end well!

Also with these small connectors and also servo plugs there is only a finite number of insertions that should be made before changing them.

Try some low temp hot glue on the connections. (dollar store -craft-scrapbooking gun - will say low temp)

Low temp glue will break the bond easily and can be ripped open to get the wires out.

I did this on my 700n and went from an average of 10-20 fades per flight to less than 10 (rx and 2 sats)

Or as deet says - go futaba sbus.

I bought an exxtreme and didn't want to take the risk with dsm2 , and went with a 8FG

not going to happen, I cant stand the menus in futaba. The spektrum system is awesome they just need to beef up this connection. I actually use hot glue on all my connections.

The menu's are a bit different i will admit.

I was a jr guy since i started (except a pair of wideband am radios way back when) and i do like the programming ease of the jr set.

Futaba (8fg unit) did take me a little to get used to. This radio will do alot more (if required) and therefore it will require more programming to do so.

Being were in the vbar forum , i'm assuming our running vbar. The programming of the radio for a vbar'd heli is minimal. As i recall i reversed the throttle , dropped epas to 99 (no subtrim at all x 3 models ) setup dual throttle hold switches (this took me a bit the first time) , and tyed the timer to the idle up switches. After that the vbar does the rest.

Like anything , once you do it a few times it is easy the next.

Short list of pros and cons

+ no more sats and sat wires.
+ small recievers - i use the 6203 sbus units
+ 8fg has very smooth sticks
+ timer screen is huge in 8fg

- 8 fg lighter and smaller than 11x (for those big handed guys)
- 8 fg switch placements tight on the top switches (again big fingers)
- quiet timer beeper on 8fg

I was told by a reputable member that your chances can be reduced to 1 in 1000 by using JR wires and JR dsmx sats on a DSMX system. Jr quality control is far superior to spectrum.

Or just goto the new JR dmss system.

Hope this helps

Martin

Run a beed of E6000 around the wires at the plug for support. Had the same problems before.
It has levels and had some flexability to it. That's the same stuff lots of used on the original 3G mod.

One more con - no inbuilt telemetry unless you go $3000 18MZ.

I like my DX8 with telemetry and the ability to position my two satellites anywhere I want.
