Default What does expo in pitch curve do? (DX8)

So today I experimented with INH and ACT with the "expo" in the pitch curve menu. (DX8)... I'm not sure if I noticed a difference or not.. what does this actually do?

Expo adds a 'dead' area just around mid stick. So if you enabled expo on a pitch curve then you will have a small area around the center of the pitch curve that moves less with the same input as the same input further out. Its good on the collective functions but I don't know if it would be overly useful in a pitch curve.

I am familiar with traditional expo.. but this expo is an option in the pitch curve menu... will that actually add expo to pitch? (since with regular expo we can only choose aileron, elevator, and rudder).

Plus it's not adjustable.. just active or inhibit.

I imagine thats exactly what it does. Why you want to have expo in a pitch curve is beyond me but I suppose if you are in mode 1 it might help stop any unwanted pitch changes when you go to use the cylclic control on the same stick

I was hoping maybe it will increase accuracy in precision hovering and stationary flips and rolls? I use 13º pitch on my Fusion 50 and that makes it really touchy trying to hover and flip/roll without over shooting and bobbing up and down.

I tried it and think it helped.. but not really sure if it was my imagination etc.

It's not really expo at all. This function attempts to linearize servo travel to make the collective response more linear, its usually pretty helpful to dial up CCPM interactions.

If you are flying mode 2 (I'm in mode 1 so not much experience with mode 2) then a roll or flip is mostly cylic input with some correction on the pitch depending on your orientation. I suspect if you reduced the 'resolution' of the throttle curve with expo then you may just be able to get a tighter loop or roll with less practice. You would have to compare the results with it on and off.

If you are running a non linear curve it smooths out the transitions between points.
Try a blank model and then make a curve with widely varying points say 0 35 57 71 84 100
turn expo on and watch the lines of the graph smooth out in between.

This was very noticable in my 10x that had 9 avaliable and assignable points.
I only fly linear straight curves now 0-100 so it is basically useless.

It will not affect the feel only off center like traditional expo

Ah! Thanks all.. and mxracer that answers my question! So I'll just leave in INH since I run 0-100 on all 3 modes.

Its really badly named, it changes the interpolation (generation of values between points set in curve) from linear to some sort of exponential function (could even be a spline). They should have called it something else so its not so confusing (like curve smoothing or such...).
