Default Excess Play In Motor Shaft-460mx?

I totaled my 450L last weekend when a very abrupt tail blowout in a funnel put it straight into the dirt. My fault for the low headspeed and high wind.

Since it has 104 hours on the flight timer, I tore it all down to rebuild it. I noticed the motor has some play in it. It flies perfectly and makes no noise. But has this amount of play.

Is this abnormal and worth replacing bearings? It seems like the bearings are fine and it's just got some play up and down. Left and right, the bearings are tight.

judging by the damage to the motor, that must of been a hard crash? Rekit? I'd bin it.

That is what stumps me. This motor has been like that for the past three months. It flies perfectly and makes no noise. It had play long before the recent nasty crash.

The gouged metal along the can's edge is from the motor play. The outrunning can rubs the base occasionally.

I don't know if this in and out play is normal or not. I emailed AlignTrexStore to get their opinion.

You can get a shaft and bearing kit for about 12 bucks. I believe you have ordered another heli anyways, but if you can save the motor by replacing the shaft and bearings, it would be worth it. Just be sure to spin it up without the pinion to check for vibes in case you don't get the can back on straight.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up using Align's buyback program. For 25 bucks I could just get a new one.

Not a bad deal :-)

Your bearing is moving in and out of the aluminum housing by the pinion. Clean it up and use some greenactment bearing retaining loctit on it.

Thats why I went with a scorpion after the 450mx , tighter tolerances, much stronger shafts and smoother spin.
The bearings last like forever on the scorpion.
