The Caliber 5 modifications thread.

I wanted to go out and fly today but its raining... so I'll be doing a little review on some modifications I did on the Caliber. I'll post them in a few hours.

Here they come:

As mentioned in the review there are some redundant screws. I'll show the places I've found:

First there is one in the geartrain:


Then also in the tail hub:


And last but not last, the flybar:



Also the antenna routing isn't the most satisfying in stock form. Although I'm useing PCM (and so should you imho) I don't trust running my antenna through a hole together with the servo cables.

I solved this by drilling a 1.5mm hole in the front of the receiver hardbox.


Then I mounted the antenna under the landing gear:



And the solution for governor sensor mounting:


I hope you guys have some tips for the ultimate setup for me too.

Laurens, I noticed your servos are not in the movable servo tray. Is that the EMS set up that I have read somebody talking about somewhere? If so, how do you go about setting it up and what are the advantages?

I'm using the stock MMS setup (mCCPM) That last pic was from when I still was building it.

People will advice you to go to eCCPM because its easier. I've had loads of eCCPM and a few mCCPM birds, and IMHO eCCPM has always been easier. I didn't go for eCCPM here because I didnt have the money and I wanted to try the stock setup first. So far I don't see any problems with it.

To get zero pitch with the mCCPM you need to center your pitch servo and connect it to nick and roll. After that you can set zero pitch by making the nick and roll linkage rods shorter or longer.

Its time for my newest mod! I went out to fly today but I only managed to get in one flight. After that I noticed my mast collar was loose :? I don't know how that came, but I changed it for a QuickUK R50 one.

Another great tip... use RED loctite on the crankshaft. I had the cooling fan loosen 4 times with loads of blue loctite before I used red. Tomorrow I will fly instead of wrench.

Fitrst: i use no loctite at all and it never moves. Same on my Raptor 50. I still don't understand how some people are so easily capable to have this kind of repetitive problems...

Second: The stock mast collar is a "cuted" type, the best type. The Quick one is just using 4 small set screws to hold on the mast. This is a stupid idea. You never use a screw against anothe one, basic mechanic. If you want it to be efficient and safe, use only 2 screws at 90° angle from eachother.

Pushing it maybe but how about a "sticky" with basic assembly "to do's" like loctite clutch shaft,spindle bolts,t/r pulleys, lube one way bearing,dampers(my cal5 had some sticky congealed c#*p on the spindle shaft )
