Default Is there a Thunder Tiger FBL Conversion for the Raptor 90 3D

I am trying to find a part number, or numbers for a complete, Thunder Tiger head conversion (not an Align or other brand) to fit on a Raptor 90 3D.

Thank you all in advance.

ya when I got my raptor 90 3d gasser I was looking for a tt fbl head but tt never made one for them.
only if there was a way to mount the g4 main shaft bearing holders we could use the g4 main shaft and the g4 fbl head. ( stock 90 main shaft is 12mm were as the g4 is 15mm).

I decided to get the rjx fbl head for my raptor 90 ( 12mm shaft ) and it works great.

Thank you, Gentlemen.

I may have a 7HV hub bored out to accommodate the larger shaft on the Raptor. That is the only other head I would consider using.

Thank you both again.

I was thinking...the new E700 head would work a treat and it has a 12mm shaft....

That is just the kind of information I was looking for!

Thank you!

Let us know how you get on and put some pics up please...I would be looking at putting a QUK swash on it as well...as I would not trust the small screws that go through the balls on the TT swash on a FBL set up..or drill and tap them out for a better stronger ball fixing....

jwatts007,

Thank you for the information about the Quick UK swashplate too, sir.

I will probably not be tackling this until after HeliFreak, but I will report back when I do so.

I hate having a perfectly good machine just sit there.

I used the Trex 700 3G and the Trex 700 DFC heads.
I also used the Trex main masts that match the instead of the Raptor masts.

I appreciate that, but I do not wish to run a DFC head at this time.

I was looking for authentic Thunder Tiger.

If I was to run a driverless head, I would have a 7HV head block bored out to fit the larger main shaft of the Raptor 90.

Thank you, just the same, though.

Hi
I have converted one of my machines with the RJX Flybarless head and it works great with the skoocum SK540 and it works great, However I am in the process of converting my other machine with the Thunder Tiger E700 Head and using the Sk540 flybarless system.
Parts needed of the E700 to do this conversion are as follows
PV1635 Rotor Hub
PV1636 FBL Rotor Grip set
PV1642 Control Lever
PV1633 Spindle
PV1634 Head button
PV1640 Main Shaft.
I have already fitted all the parts together and here's what you need to know about fitting this to your machine The E700 main Shaft is shorter than the one you have installed in the 90SE but it does fit right in you will need a 1mm shim to put between the upper main shaft bearing and the locking ring, also the E700 does not use a jesus bolt for the main gear it uses two screws to lock the main gear down as it does for the locking ring and the main rotor hub. other than that it's quite simple the best thing is that the parts are readily available over the RJX head if you should go down.

I priced all this out on eBay: $147.44

So I understand: I can use the existing main gear and autorotation gear? Instead of a "jesus bolt" there are 2 "jesus screws"

There are no links. Are links being reused from the flybar'ed head? Or, do I need to fabricate new links?

And, this head design does not use a swash follower - so I assume the Quick UK upgraded swashplate would work fine.

Yes you can use the same links that are on the main blade grip on the flybarred version and adjust accordingly. Check with Readyheli I had gotten everything for about $125.00 shipped, They did have some kind of promotion going on at the time.

Saul.

I just converted mine using the TT E700 head. It bolted right on with no problem. I used the main shaft from the E700 as well. Only needed a 1 mm washer between the thrust collar and the top main shaft bearing to take up the small gap. The follower arms are the right length to make up for the large movements of the swash plate and accomplish the 2:1 throw reduction that is present in the Hiller mixer arms on the standard head. That allows full travel of the servos. It was like it was designed to fit. And its all TT stuff. No drilling, cutting or any other modifications. Just add a washer and your done.

Yes have been using this set up myself for a while now, only thing that worried me was the E700 shaft was shorter at the bottom compared to the stock Raptor item and did not go all the way through the bottom mainshaft bearing but it has run fine so it's a case of can't fix what ain't broke. Used RJX 700 blade grips and feathering spindle, Quick EU swash and Quick EU aileron levers as the stock plastic ones were binding on the plastic ball links at max travel.

Hi Phil,

I'm in the middle of this exact same conversion (and trying to figure out an electric converssion as well).
If it's not too much trouble may I ask that you post a pic or three of the head and links, please.

Thanks, MM

No problems Margaritaman, here are a few pics, E700 headblock, mainshaft and arms, Quick EU swash and aileron levers, Trex 700 mainshaft shims for getting correct spacing under mainshaft locking collar and if you look in my post above it does tell you the mainshaft is just shy of fully locating in bottom bearing, looking at it now it seems to be approx 1.5mm shy but I have had no problems. Have put some text in the pics but it's straightforward stuff, this is my second flybarless attempt at the Raptor 90 SE and it is much better than the first. Reason for using some RJX parts is that I had them laying about from my previous conversion but would have been happy to fit the E700 items in place of them if needed. A few pics of electric conversion, batteries can be changed in a minute, slide in the rails and secured by a piece of 3mm carbon rod with fuel tubing pushed on the ends, made the lower side frames out of what I had laying about 2mm CF, did not want to spoil the upper carbon frames so that's why it looks not quite as good as it could, Raptor G4/E720 U/C and the tail pic shows a Raptor G4/E720 tail drive, easy to fit with a little bit of filing and much better strength in the gears and you can see the condition of them as the case is open. Electrics Castle Ice 2 120 HV esc, Castle Bec Pro running @ 6.8volts, motor at present Turnigy Helidrive T700- 560Kv but have used Scorpions as well. This set up works well for me but may not suit others as I'm a sports type flyer not 3D. You might have guessed already but yes one of my other heli's is a E720. Hope this helps Phill.
