Default Upgrade to Chronos from 7hvu worth it?

Hey guys. Been flying my 7hv upgraded to 7hvu for a few years now and really enjoyed the bird and hearing the upgrade to Chronos is good just wondering if it's a big difference? I watched a Chronos fly at Helifreak and seemed to fly good and somewhat more agile then the former. More agile would be better, that's the only area that I think my bird is lacking.I know different brands fly different and birds evolve but curious if the money spent is worth it? Opinions are much appreciated

BladeScraperz,

"I watched a Chronos fly at Helifreak and seemed to fly good and somewhat more agile then the former."

I am guessing that was one of my Chronos' (I had two there: One Three-Bladed and one Two-Bladed).

The Three-Bladed one had been my 7HV-U, which I flew for years and truly liked. I flew the 7HVU and the Chronos back-to-back on multiple occasions, and the difference was VERY obvious (enough that it caused me to do the upgrade).

The thing that I noticed on the Chronos over the 7HV-U is not so much the cyclic speed (which is excellent) as the precision. The geometry from the servos to the head has been changed, greatly increasing resolution. The other thing that affected/increased the precision, was the improves stiffness. the main shaft went from 10mm to 14mm, and the lower frames have stiffeners added to them.

You can also adjust the damping without taking the head apart, which is very nice when tuning.

The cumulative effect of all of the changes combines to give you a very precise, very crisp handling machine, with no issues and no bad habits.

The tail and the main gearing is the same as that found on the 7HV-U.

The upgrade was quite a bit of work, involving removing the servo mounting plates which are also the bearing blocks, replacing the swashplate, shaft, etc., adding the stiffeners, etc. About one full day of (very enjoyable) work, for an old guy like me.

It was worth it, IMHO.

I've also owned both and would say it is worth it! At least the technical upgrade. I miss my 7hvu Green canopy sometimes but the head is much stiffer and as Ah Clem mentioned, very precise feeling. The heli does exactly what you want it to

Al Clem, Yes that was yours lol! Looked like it flew very well indeed. I've been waiting to see the upgrades in stock for awhile, guess it is a popular item. Thanks for the reply

I had the blue canopy with the thunderbolts on it, really really liked that canopy but sadly It didn't last me long

BladeScraperz,

Thank you, sir!

If you decide that you want the upgrade, I would send an email to Experience R/C and request one. It is a fairly specialized item, I think.
