Server switch for a charger power supply??
Hi folks,
Not sure if this is the right bit of the forum..If it isn't, apologies, please redirect me. I have 4 Dell Power Connect RPS-600 rack mounted redundant power supplies here, new and unused. Like this: http://tinyurl.com/ptnjrmp They are used to power 24 or 48 port network switches (or hubs) in a server rack so that if their on-board power supplies fail, the RPS-600 takes over. They have four 12v 150Watt 13 A outputs on them. These things aren't much use in a server rooms any more as they are from the past. However they might have a use for people who want to build a charger power station to charge their Li-Po's with. They will probably need a bit of modification. I haven't looked into them very much so far as to what is inside them and what their pin-outs are etc.... I am just wondering if they MIGHT have a use for people charging batteries or should I just throw them out....Seem a shame to get rid of them as they are 100% new and unused with cables... I realise that big Li-Po packs and powerful chargers need 24volt power supplies but again perhaps these power supplies can be modified. Hummmmmm What do we think?

Server switch for a charger power supply??
They are very low output at 13 amps. In general it would be desirable to have at least 40 amps or more. But they would likely work for a small charger supply.
My setup puts out 72 amps....

Its OEM'd by Cisco as the redundant power supply junk from back in the 90's gear...
Hate to say it but it was one of Cisco's worst ideas.. The RPS stuff was crap. You need the actual raw power supplies out of the servers themselves. If you look at the new Cisco switches like the 3750 X series, etc.. they have removable units that are 24 or 48v.. Awesome!!
