Hi Omerco. Good work optimising the Sk setup.
Ive been flying my own settings I put together last year after the latest sk software upgrade and my 450 seems to fly fine. Im a sport/ light 3d flyer.

Would you still recommend updating my settings to your sport setup?

Im willing to try anything that will help improve my flying
Cheers....

If you are looking for a more locked heli, or you have the elevator bounce and would like to improve it - then yes.
If you are happy with how it is - don't.
You can always save your setup and try mine and if you don't like it just load yours back.

Noob question:

When I rename the file with the suffix .sk7 and I open the skookum gyro setup software, I click "File > load setup" but the downloaded files don't show up to open.

How do I load these profiles from the original post? They stay as a .txt file, and won't be recognized by the skookum software. I'm attempting with a skookum 540.

Try this as a first step:

1) Download the .txt file

2)Double click and open it as a .txt file

3)Click the "Save as" in the top left menu of the file itself

4)Change the file extension back to proper when renaming the file

5) Look under the file name location and there should be another drop down listed under "File Type" make sure this is changed to "All files" before saving.

If this doesn't work, then its the way your PC has your file extensions configured, and we can address and change this setting easily if problems is still occurring.

I tried it - doesn't work. when saving from txt to sk7 the test editor damages the file.

Atkin (for windows 7):
press START
In the command bar (down left) type "folder options". enter...
go to "VIEW" tab
7th' option: uncheck the "hide extension to known file types". Apply.

You should see the real TXT extension now and should be able to change it to SK7.

That is exactly the next step I was referring to in my reply. Many times the file extensions are just being hidden by Windows, and you cant see the txt in order to remove it in the new file naming. Strange that I'm running Windows 7 and can also get it to work using the other method as well.

Atkin, here is what you are looking for to make sure the box is unchecked.

No worries.....I already made it this morning when I made the other one in anticipation that it might be needed later today, so it was just sitting on my desktop

Heh! thanks guys! I feel embarrassed that I'm a computer IT support manager (Mac/Unix). My excuse is that I only touch a PC for running my heli electronics.....

I'll give it a go when I get home from work.

I hope this helps others too

My mother is even worse: after 40 years working in information systems, managing more than 100 programmers - she still knows nothing about the PC at home. Maybe you still have a chance!

Mine is great so far Omer, but I will pick your brain since we are on the subject. I have been increasing my head gain slowly to try and determine the max before oscillation.

So far I'm up to 60 and still nothing so far, so isn't that a little high for a 700? I'm at 2000 rpm max now on my Goblin, and have been running as low as 40% with good results for how I fly. It just seems there should be some noticeable change with a 50% increase in gain, especially considering the Goblins head geometry makes it hard to keep the cyclic end points at 60% or lower. I'm currently at 64% so I would think it would be less tolerant since it has a higher mechanical gain setting.

Maybe just the lower head speed since I'm not screaming at 2300+ like a lot of the guys are doing these days??

I believe you got it backward: your goblin needs something like 64 on the swash for cyclic with 125+ for travels to get 10 deg. this is LOW mechanical gain and not high.

This also means +1 on your total gain has less effect then on a heli which has higher mechanical gain.

And your headspeed.

Everything you have is on the low side

Do you check for oscillations in hover or in high speed hurricanes?

It hovered great in my trex 450.

I haven't let loose with it yet. It feels pretty sensitive for me. I might soften it up by lowering my control rates. I think they were around 310 from your file. I assume keeping expo at zero in my TX is best (otherwise it feels really mushy from both skookum and the TX from compounding effects).

Once I'm no longer a skookum noob, I'll put it in my 550 and 700 birds! I can't wait to get rid of my castle governor!

I use 15 expo with my 3d setting
310 is high. Lowering that down might be more suitable to you. You are with the sport settings yes?

The file "3D small (x3, 450)" was uploaded to my trex450. I'll try 15% expo on my radio and lower the control rates to 260.

I should have a chance to test some hard tail funnels and sloppy 360 pyro flips this evening.

Bloody hell, or course you are right! Stuck inside this weekend, and too many beers today when I typed this one Of course this combined with dropping from a 2300 rpm head speed I used to run down to 2000 is why its now so tolerant of the higher head gain

Both, and so far no oscillations

I had a chance to tune things a bit. Head bobble mostly gone, tail good with gov off. I turned on the gov with 30 gain (default), then bumped up to 36 and heard the "cha-cha-cha" right away. When back down to 32 or so and it was good.

The gov seems to overspeed on hard negative pitch pump, but no headspeed loss on climbs.
