The GP780 is worth the upgrade. But by far the most essential upgrades on a 250 are in the tail. PM HeliFreak member "Heim Joint" and order:

1) the 250 tail bearing spacer kit
2) upgraded tail bearings
3) Chinese weights

All of this will cost less than $20, and it will be the best money you ever spend on your 250. The spacer kit takes all of the slop out of the tail blade grips. The upgraded bearings last way longer than the stock bearings (which wear out in a matter of weeks); and the Chinese weights drastically reduce the load on the tail servo so upgrading to a large expensive heavy tail servo is unnecessary. The net result is a tail that, given proper mechanical setup, will not wag, the most common complaint leveled against 250s.

With these upgrades, you'll almost certainly fall in love with your 250

I have the GY780 on my FB 250.

Just wondering if anyone using that gyro, what TX gain is set at?

I have my gain set at 55% for HH mode. Is that too low? And if I go to 56-60% the wag is pretty much unbearable. I mean.. if it had a fin like a fish, I wouldn't need an elevator to go forward.

IIRC I had my gain around 35-40% on my DX8.

I finished the rebuild on mine last night, just need to setup the GP780 and do head setup and my 250s ready to fly again.

I ended up having to use an AR8000 on it because I didn't have any small receivers free. Oh well. :p

Isn't that normal or rate mode?

Since I use a 2801 TX by walkera, from what I can make out on it, 1-50% is rate mode (light on the rx is off) and anything above 51-100% is HH mode. (light on rx is on)

And on top of that, the gain seems to increase from the middle out... meaning, 50% is low, while going lower is higher gain, so 1% is max on rate mode, while 100% is max on the HH side.

I remember trying to setup rate mode, which it was at 20%, I couldn't get rid of wag till I was around 35-40%.

So for me, I still wonder if 55% for HH mode is lil low. Might have to work on vibration to figure that out.

My other 250, which is FBL using 2702v, is actually at 70% with no wag... So that's the other thing that has me wondering.

On the DX8 -100% to 0% is Rate mode, 0% to 100% is Heading Hold.

Default Love it!

I learned on a walkera 4G3 so to me the Trex 250 flies like I thought a 700 would fly! It still flies well with a micro HD camera attached and an all up weight of 375 g. I'm not into 3d yet, but I can pull some nice maneuvers, and most importantly have a blast doing it. Normal mode, expos and dual rates are all useless, the Trex 250 can be precise, slow, stable and snappy at the same time in idle up with 12 degrees on collective / 8 cyclic.

It takes a lot of patience to set it up correctly... I understand the frustration of those who are used to bigger helis, but then again all I can tell you is that compared to maintaining a 4G3 its a piece of cake!

"do you love or hate your 250?"

Yes, x2.

Tried all the mods to get rid of the tail wag and I am now back to original equipment with just an added bearing in the tail grips. Both of mine fly awesome with all original electronics. I keep them in the truck in case I have some time to kill and find a little bit of space.

Bought mine used, should have just bought new after all the rebuilding. Have Flymentor on it with Futaba GY520 gyro for tail gyro and now complete microheli tail. Started with solid stock tail but as it got sloppy with wear I could never get stock parts to really work right. I also have 7 channel radio (wo satellite) so I can control Flymentor modes and gyro gain. Heli fondly known as "Miss Piggy". She is a dream to fly even in decent winds. Either fly in horizontal hold mode or with Flymentor off. I was absolutely sick of SR I bought based on advertising. It is one sick Heli. The 250 was not quick to learn but after getting it setup carefully it is a real joy to fly. Go from McPx to 250 to 550 as I learn stuff. As soon as they put out new 3G combo I will have one! Want pair!

I fly a "Bone Stock" with the exception of a CF tube over the tail push rod. (Stiffens it).

From the day I bought it, I LOVED it to the tenth power.

Except setting it up. It was my first build, and it's tiny size plus a NON-American manual didn't help.

The first time I wound it up...I was sold. I had flown a B400 before this and it was like night and day!

WIND? SHMIND! It tolerates more wind than I do. Mind you, I'm just a sport flyer: FFF, Loops/flips, Funnels, Inverted turns. It's all a matter of altitude.
There are always "haters" of every bird. But there's a thin line between "haters" and "whiners".

Sure, many might not say it's their favorite bird...That's a matter of taste.

But IMHO overall, the "jury" was back a long time ago.

Trust me: If you give it a chance...it'll give you a dance!

I'm in love with my newly bought Align T-rex 250se.
In the beginning it was pretty heavy tail wag on it, but after setting the gyro gain down from 75 to 65-68 it was perfect.

Yesterday I flew 7 battery packs on it, with nothing but GREAT flying and no chrashing. Never happened to me before on my 450 or my HoneyBee v2.

So, so far i totally LOVE my 250.

I've had mine for about two years now (500 flights) and love it. I take it away on camping trips and have a blast in the evenings with it. I fly it in wind that often grounds a lot of club members that fly everything from 450s to Varios.

It's very stock except the poverty gyro, Assan GA 250 but it holds well enough to do inverted sport stuff. Great heli

Cheers

My 250 has had two crashes (both my fault) and probably close to 100 flights. I fly it more than my 500 since I can fly in front of the house and not have to worry about running out of space.
The 250 has been a very reliable heli for me and I would never give it up, maybe even buy a second one so I don't have to wait between flights. Initial tail wags were cured with a good tail servo and a carbon push rod and has been rock solid ever since.

I've had my 250 since this past Wednesday, bought it here from Heliddd (great guy to buy from). It has the Micro Heli tail, Align FBL head and Beastx, I could not be happier with it. Its smooth and solid and is exactly what I wanted for flying indoors this winter.

I cut my teeth learning to fly on a CP pro, I had sworn off small helis till I flew an MCPX which I like, but isnt exactly the same. The Trex 250 is everything the CP pro dreamed of being and much much more IMO!!

Oh, almost forgot, yeah I like it, its ok

My Goto Walkera v400 died horribly and I'm looking at either a trex 250 (got 6 batteries that will work with it so it seems logical), or a Beam 450. The Beam 450 is likely to be much better for big air flying. But, I don't have anywhere close I can fly like that - especially in winter and I need something that will fly well enough inside to be safe (but more fun than 120sr which flies itself), and with enough power to not be blown away when I do want to fly outside.
Its likely to be my goto heli for at least a year or so so it needs to be fun to fly,

So, if you could have a kick ass 450 that is fairly useless given that there aren't that many places to safely fly one around here, or a 250 that looks like it almost park flyable what would it be? I have a 120SR as well, but its way to easy to fly and gets boring.

I love my 250. Even more with her GY520 that keeps her tail smooth as silk. I fly indoor/outdoors when there is no room for her bigger sisters. Nice heli. Feels like a woman... very sensitive and with the need for time, care and money.
