Default T-Rex 700Nitro vs DFC - advice needed

Hi guys

I am considering buying a Trex 700n, I am aiming at the second hand market. Problem is most of the guys advertise their 700n as "Trex 700N DFC", but with closer inspection it’s an older model that has the DFC head.

Furthermore I had a quick look on the internet but could not find a quick breakdown of how the 700n was upgraded since introduced. Seems like the new DFC has a thinner frame and the canopy looks different (not sure if it will fit the older models without having to re-align the holes.)

Could anyone please share the difference between the newer DFC and the older Pro models? I came across ads of people selling the Limited Edition (flybar version converted to FBL)

Would it still be worth my while going for an older Pro version?

Buying new would obviously be first prize, but with the weak currency it becomes rather expensive for the combo. I have a set of HV servos and MSBrain gyro I want to install, so no need for the combo. There is some nice second hand deals available on the local forums here in South Africa.

Other than the narrower frame, I don't know what the bigger differences are.

But...
I would recommend the 700N V2 converted to the DFC.
There are a million after market parts and upgrades from KDE Direct, Lynx and G Force that fit the V2.
I have even added the Align Speed Fuselage to my 700N V2.

I don't know of any aftermarket upgrades or mods that fit the newer 700N DFC with the narrow frame.


I have all the upgrades I can think of on my 700N

Nice looking heli. Curious, why two skid legs in back?

For OP, I think used market is a good option. If your in the lee learning phase, as long as you get a FBL you will probably be happy with older or newer Trex's.

I have a 700n and the Dfc head upgrade is a bit dangerous to use. You will notice Align went back to a head with the seesaw control arms. I have had 2 occasions where the Dfc linkage arm came off from too much force. I even have spare Dfc head and linkages and never use then anymore. The one good benefit from the Dfc version is the bigger nitro tank but not that it makes too much of a difference. Checkout the sale section I have one there for sale. It is a fun bird to fly, do stable.

Autorotation with a full tank - If you don't get it perfect, you break the rear skid.

I use the low profile skid in the front and 2 of the old-style high profile in the back. It gives it a cool look on the ground.

I have been running the DFC heads since they came out. I actually modified my Thunder Tiger Raptor 90SE to use the DFC head when I converted it to FBL.
I have never had a problem with boom strikes or links failing.

The re-packaged head that Align sells now (a few pieces from the 3G head and a few pieces from the DFC head - an anodized red) is mainly due to SAB (Goblin's) problems getting their DFC system to work.
It gave the DFC concept a bad name.

It was a no-brainer for Align to take a bunch of old parts, anodize them red, and sell them for $120.
