Do you know if the tail is improved at all? IMO its the worst part of the 500, courses everyone vibes, the screws snap and destroy the heli, has heaps of slop etc etc...

Cheers,
Jerry

If you have a look at the manual he has posted it shows the grips with two bearing instead of one so this should help, I agree the tail is crap.

Rotaryguy, could you measure up the width between the main frame please; as it has been stated that the 500pro has a narrower frame than the old 500/esp. im just teally curious as to how much of the hardware will fit into/between my 500's frames - i'd consider the bearing blocks, bottom cf base, boom holder and motor mount to give my old esp a newer look....along with the canopy and and new tail grips and hub.

Already posted, it's 35mm. Align also lists these numbers for the new bearing blocks.

Rotaryguy could you also take a few measurements when you get to the head build. Be interesing to see if the new grips would work on the old headblock, or visa versa...

I don't know you guys, but both, my 600EFL Pro and the 500ESP, had the problem mentioned by rotaryguy in regards to the angle the tail assembly ends on the boom due to the aligning hole of the boom being off.

But, even though I've secured the tail clamp and have seen it clamps the boom, the tail assembly has rotated ending off at an angle after several flights. After tightening the tail clamp more and more as I found it off in several occasions, I stop tightening it because it was tightened real hard already, and went and installed a scotch tape stripe on the boom where the tail clamp goes on, as called for the horizontal boom clamp. After I did that, the tail clamp has never rotated again.

Has anyone found or having this problem?

Thanks.

David

If it rotates you likely have a vibration in the tail, but yes I had 2 600 pro's and 2 700e's all with the same off angle tail case.

Wow, you do have helis!

Weird; My 600EFL doesn't seem to have any vibration problem at all. Let see if the 500EFL will be ok.

Thanks.

Rotaryguy,

What camera are you using to take the pictures?

I'm impressed how clear the pictures are even with shinny objects present!

A 5 year old Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi, VERY poor lighting and this is my first time using it so I am quite sure its capable of much more. I borrowed it to get some shots of my daughter playing her first soccer game and figured I would put it to use while in my possession.

So true! When I receive my 500 Pro I probably won't even open the manual, I'll just refer to this thread

After using the needle file in the tail boom hole to make the tail align correctly. Since the hole is now bigger than the plastic pin, can the tail case move out of alignment still?

It is possible it could rotate slightly on the boom if you have high frequency vibrations, but it still clamps down very tight. I have built at least 30+ E-Helis and since I have learned, or have gotten much better at cleaning up tail vibrations I have since NEVER had a tail rotate, eject , brake a hub bolt, etc...In my early days with 450 size birds and buzzing tails I can recall at least half a dozen times where vibrations caused a tail case to spin in flight or a tail blade grip bolt to fail and eject the assembly in flight. I preach it - tail vibrations, weather caused by the tail directly or the result of some other part are in my opinion the top cause of these types of failures. With the exception of castle controller failures I have not had a failed part related crash in years. Of course I probably just jinxed myself!
Anyway, I have another 70-80 pictures of the head install I plan to get posted in the morning with comments, then I will be moving into electronics installation, wiring, etc...
Stay tuned and thanks for the comments!
