Default trex 600 esp on 8s what pinion?

hey all,

what is the right pinion for the new motor that is included in the esp kit?

i was thinking 11 or 12 tooth..????

the other problem it is a 6mm shaft....where can i even find the pinion to buy?

the kit comes with 14,15 which i assume is only for 6s

You'd need a 12t pinion to get the same max HS on 8S as you get on 6S. There aren't many 6mm pinions round at the moment and I don't know of any less than 14t (as supplied in the kit for 6S) - you might have to drill out a 5mm mod 0.7 12t pinion from Mikado or Revco if you're determined to go that route or else get a lower kV motor

The best advice I can give you is to scrap the Align motor/esc and go 10s. Most dealers will give you at least ~$100 off the price without motor/esc. Use this to help buy a good motor/esc.

Best 10s combo imop is a Kontonik Tango 45-08 (800kv) motor and Jazz 55-10-32 esc. With a 13t pinion (new Align steel ones work great), Outrage 2x5s 25c 3700 packs (mounted vertically - perfect CG), and gov'd to ~ 2050 headspeed, you can get a lot of rock and roll for about 8 minutes runtime. At the end of each flight, all components will just barely be warm and you can fly back-to-back all day. I assure you that you will not be able to do all this with any 6-8s setup, esp. the new 650xl on 6s.

About the only advantage that the new esp model configuration is that it makes it a bit more like the nitro ones, so maybe it's a bit easier to fit the Align scale bodies.

Pretty disappointing, the new Trex600e imop. Nice canopy though!

Cheers,
TomC

TomC - I'm very interested in the setup you mention, since I was about to go 600N instead of a new 600esp - are you really getting 8 minute flights!? What's your flying style? Is that down to 80% discharge or more? Other thing is, looking at Outrage weights quoted by the UK distributor, that pack (2 x 5s 3700) seems heavy compared to Outrage 6s 5000, does this cause any problems?

Grateful for any advice you got, as I would rather stay electric but can't be doing with 5 minute runs anymore.

Cheers, Al.

If you fly this 10s setup like a stock 600N ( or a stock 6s 600e) at ~2000-2050 HS you will get 7-8 min @ ~75-80% discharge. If you want to fly it very hard and jerky at ~2200 hs, you are going to get ~6 min.

The 2x5s packs weigh ~1000g and the 6s 5000 pack weighs ~770g (with connectors). Whilst the 10s is ~30% heavier, it also has ~30% more contained energy, so you don't get something for nothing.

If you want good power and more duration, the way to do this is to simply keep the hs down to reasonable levels and use higher energy packs imop. If you want your motor/esc/batteries to stay cool and last a long time you need to keep the amps down by going to higher voltages (like 10s).

As long as the 2x5s packs are mounted vertcally, the CG is fine. I have a TT tail and CF boom and mine is perfect. My all up flying weight is 3.75kg, still ~ 2-300g less than a MA Razor with the same components.

Hope this helps.

Cheers,
TomC

this is exactly what i think now. 6s 5amp packs are just barely making it on a .50 size machine. imop 6s1p is better off powering 550mm .30 size machines.

8s is a good choice but 10 seems to be where its at in performance off all degree.
ive seen 10s logos fly like a dream

I agree with you 100%. I've seen 8s Trex600e setups and they work very well but components are not going to run as cool as on 10s. New high output battery packs like the Outrage 25c packs give the performance edge to 10s imop.

Most Logo 500's I've seen are using 6s 3700-5000 packs and 500-550mm main blades. Most Logo 600's I've seen are using 10s 3700-4200 packs and 600mm main blades. I never have seen a logo600 on 6-8s.

The Trex600e is the same class as a logo600, so why should it be setup any differently?

Cheers,
TomC

No - not the motor without smaller pinion which isn't available and you would need an HV ESC like the Jazz 55-10-32 or the CC HV 85
