Default Gaui trainer

I've had a walkera v120d02s for quite a while for backyard flying, but the thing is way more stable than my flybar Gaui 200 so it was not much use as a Gaui trainer...

I just realized I could dial down the 3axis gyro gain, which I did-- took it from 12:00 position down to 9:00 and now it handles pretty darn close to the Gaui. I've got my backyard trainer!

Great idea, I also feel that a real trainer should not fly that well, in a sense. The Honeybee fixed pitch was one example, crappy to fly just to the point to force you to improve your skills, but still rewarding if you do your part, and relatively easy and inexpensive to fix!

Or you could go the other way any convert your Gaui to FBL w/ BeastX. My 200FES + AR7200BX is a _lot_ more stable than my Walkeras and 130Xs. The BeastX just does what you tell it and not more. Flies like it is on rails. There's no piro compensation, etc on the V120/130X size helis.

That being said my 130X can hit the side of the house at full speed and then pick up and fly again! Sadly my 200FES is collecting dust... I fly the 130X in the backyard and 450's at the big park. Maybe when my skills improve to the point I'm not crashing during hard 3D I will pull it out again in the backyard or small parks. The 200FES does fly very nice.

Good point, the Honeybee is basically a heavy Ikarus Piccolo clone, and I learnt to fly with one of those 11 years ago. It was so unstable that once mastered I could fly anything in almost any wind. Everything is too easy now with 45 degree flybars and coaxial toys. There never used to be such a thing as a trainer heli, just cheaper helis

Too stable=boring... there is something rewarding developing your skill set to control the bird...

I like the idea of 3 or 6 axis gyros, as long as you can dial them down as your skill increases.
