One of a few packs from today. Sorry for the shakiness ahead of time.

Good to see you back in the air with your 550 Ed! Looks good.
I was at a fun-fly last Saturday (Helis over Apache Pass) and was blown away by the caliber of the fliers there, one young man (an excellent flier) was 8 years old! It took me all day to work up the nerve to fly but I finally did. Seemed like I was flying in slow motion after what I'd seen all day. First time I've ever flown with somebody flying on both sides of me 50 yards away or so. It still was lots of fun.

Nice flight Big G!
I remember feeling the same at my first time flying "in front of others" at an event. Nerve wrecking. I was just hoping to not crash. Great flight boss!

Ed,
I don't know how you flew that, could you see the disk at all? I'm impressed! Our club is doing night flights monthly and now that I have two 550s I think I'll turn one into a night flier. Thanks for the reminder. I'm up to flight #4 on my second 550. Had a little residual tail wag but it's flying so well that I started to push it a little. Also tried self level on the Ikon, that's really slick. Next time I'll do it from inverted.

Yeah I think the batteries need to be changed but I can still see the disc pretty good

Good stuff George!
I had a couple "pushing it" moments today. Uploading as I type. More than anything I'm doing things closer to myself and the ground....probably not too smart..... Before work:
After work:

Well, my 550e-v2 is back in the air and today I did my first low headspeed flight. It went pretty well with only one time where I didn't stay ahead of the collective and got too low. Next time I'll go a little lower with the head speed and see how that does. So far so good. I posted this over in the low head speed forum, but hopefully it fits here too. I've got to say that the sound of the blades at the lower head speed is very cool. I do go up to IU2 towards the end of the flight.

Nice ed, I'm waiting for the new mobius action cam, the new one I had just freaked out on me...
I hope to get the new one soon. I wanna be able to see my skills improve. Also I had a big crash the other day fling my 450x. It was my best flight yet. Mixing in a bunch of 3d.. Wish it was on cam. I could see what went wrong... |

Here's my last low head speed flight, with the head speed even lower than before. Compared to how I normally fly it is very peaceful. Sadly, it's a boring flight as I spent most of the time flying tail first to be sure the tail would hold. Next time I'll do some slow motion 3d. The auto at the end is the first I've done with this airframe. I actually had a fair bit more time to fly as the lipo ended up at 3.95 per cell after 3:30.

Decided at the end of the pack it would be a good idea to from IU3 100% HS to IU1 at 80% HS. Went inverted, not enough juice at the end of the pack bring it back up right and I got the obligatory tail-in-funky-chicken-dance!
I'll be out for a while on the rebuild...last time it was 8 weeks. With a new baby due in September, might be a bit longer this time around. I still have my little 450X I can slap the AR7200 on and "have fun" with it in the meantime.

Bummer Ed! Looked to me that your lipo gave out. Did you check the voltages of the cells? Wouldn't surprise me if 1 or more were abnormally low. You should have been able to punch out at 80%. I looked at my last crash as an excuse to stretch it with a 600 boom & TT and go to 550 blades. Really like the way it flies.

A local cub scout troop stopped by the field this morning. Lots of us flew for them showing the different types of R/C aircraft. Here was my flight.

Nice George! Dang....day one seems so long ago doesn't it? Congrats on the progress and thanks for taking the time to demo for future hobbyists! That's what it's about Big G!
As a side note: Individual cell voltage from pack I was flying when it went south: Cell 1 - 3.68 Cell 2 - 3.79 Cell 3 - 3.80 Cell 4 - 3.80 Cell 5 - 3.80 Cell 6 - 3.79 Capacity = 25.2 Total Voltage = 22.66 = 89.992% So it looks like I passed the 80% rule ....I'll have to plug in the ESC and see what I have as cut off. I can't remember now. Either way.....final breakdown and damage assessment tonight. Maybe some pics if I'm not feeling too lazy. I'll start marking the parts list. Dang it.

That's so weird Ed. I have the low head speed flight mode on my 550 set at 60% (1750rpm) and it climbs out decently. The only other thing I can think of is that one or more cells drop out under load. Those voltages don't look that bad though. Very sad.
And yes, it doesn't seem that long ago that I started (Jan of 2013). So much has changed...but not the excitement.
