Thanks Trillian. I tried several different and some elaborate masking schemes. The only way i could get it to look decent to me was to try to hide the cowling and make it really simple. I've got some carbon fiber wrap and im thinking of wrapping the "cockpit" with it but haven't made up my mind yet. Gonna probably call on Insane to do me a nice canopy up.

Just time for some flying at sunset last night. Great timing, no wind and direct sun on the disc. I also tried a single 6s 5000 pack and 600 blades at 1,250rpm don't have much lift. I was at full pitch and sinking through most transitions. It's more challenging than Faifa low head speed flying, but still great fun. The Dune is quiet, even at 2,200+rpm, but it was whisper quiet last night. I wonder if 14° of pitch would make it more flyable?

I think you definitely have to go with lots and lots of pitch when you lower the headspeed way down. I find that even for smooth flying I like a certain feel around mid-stick and I get a bit concerned if I ever max out the collective so I always like having a bit of pitch in reserve.

I was already flying it with 13° +/-, I'll try 14° and see how it feels. I found that I also needed to carry more momentum, so it's a bit like flying a big mCPx! The stretched Dune that I've been using for speed runs has 15° and that is amazing to fly gentle 3D with 12s and the throttle curve low. Light disc loading, low gains and high expo for speed flying is really relaxing. I'll have to try it with a single pack.

I bet like the Faifa 800 it will fly really nicely with 8s... a bit more usable power and decent run times. The main thing I want is the newer Kontronik Jive Pro ESCs with the capacity limit. I must have done ten minutes with the Dune on 6s and still only used 50%. Though I'm not sure I would notice the capacity limit kick-in at such low head speeds... I've got bored flying my Faifa on 6s before the Kosmik has started to power-down. I think 10 minutes is my threshold, plus you also feel like a field hog!

I took out the Dune today after having not flown in ages, prob going on three weeks. I just tried out some bright orange fluorescent tape on the boom and it does improve the visibility quite a bit. Most the day the light was pretty good, so I didn't get to test it in really dark conditions but it pops out pretty good.

It's a Beam Avantgarde with a JR three blade head. The head came with blades but they were only 510mm and I did fly it with them but it wasn't too great. So now I have temporarily balanced up some 600mm TT blades but the silly ESC was acting up and wouldn't go above about 30% throttle so I didn't get to do more than hover.

I was thinking JR but Forza only comes in 450 and 700. I guess it comes from their E series. I'm really wanting to Tri out a three bladed head!

Yeah it's the MB331 head which is made for the NEX E6. Once I sort out the ESC issue I can really see if it's going to be worth the effort.

I was hoping to duplicate in a smaller version the way the Triabolo flies, which is stunningly good.

Yep, I 'need' a Triabolo, that looks great.

It's like a chunkier version of the TDR with a fatter boom and belt tail, otherwise they are very similar. I haven't flown it in a couple months now as I wanted to get the TDR going and the Faifa dialed-in, so I've forgotten what it's like now :-o I think the technical term for it though is a 'mo fo'

Default Probably the best pics of the Dune I'll ever get

I just got back from a little trip to Spain and have hundreds of pics, some of them are simply stunning. Here are a few (albeit in a smaller, compressed version - it's a real shame how they get mangled when you upload on here but so it goes).

A year ago I moved from JR to Jeti DS-16 Tx .

Next step was to install JLog 2.6 on my electric helicopters.

What a great tool JLog is.

Here is on my KSM Dune installed.

Speed flying today with the stretched Dune! The new Pyro 850-50 comp motor is coming alive and with 16° @ 2,400rpm it spiked at 280amps

It was such a calm day yesterday that I could resist some more speed runs and seeing how far I could push the Dune. The last flight was using 16° of pitch at 2,600rpm.

Just so I could hear and watch some passes later I placed my phone on my TX case. It's a bit wonky and I've only posted the spool-up and first pass, though it makes a great noise and goes pretty quickly past the camera!

Kasama Dune 16° @ 2,600rpm (0 min 38 sec)
