Nightmare! Is the heli the stock super combo. Were you running the 130A Align ESC, or the 160A Castle ESC (or something else)?
On the two 700X tail gear boxes I've assembled I've been able to get a 0.2 or 0.3mm shim behind the front TT gear which removes the slop from the gears and should make stripping less likely.

Mine was the combo kit with castle esc .
I noticed on the last few flights while bringing it in to land tail gears noisy but only checked rear ones !! There's been a white dust coming from the plastic and thought right I will spray some silicone spray on them , never thought to check the front gears as heli never been bumped and been flying Align helicopters since day 1 and never have I seen stripped front gears after 60 flights and zero tail / floor contact . I'm so pissed off as been bragging Align lately then BAM !!! Yes I will check the play but never have I had an issue , there's quite a lot of play in the rear tail gears which could do with shimming out also |

The reason I asked about the ESC is that the governor on the Castle is known to be brutal and will blow gears out if the governor gain is set too high. When the gain is too high it causes high frequency 'snatching' in the drivetrain and the TT gears cant take it. I've had the exact same failure on the 600 pro when using a castle ESC.
I'm not sure what gov gain you were running but on the 600 it had to be set below the standard 'low' value'. A user defined value of '12' or '13' would prevent it happening on the 600.

If you need a couple in a hurry PM me your address and I'll put a 0.2mm and a 0.3mm in the post.

This may have no bearing but I needed the low gears and started using the red front tail box red gears but continued using the old back umbrella gear on the torque tube. So black on red umbrella.
Perfect play - zero wear.

Thankyou but no rush as most parts out of stock every where , can't see 700x swashplate any where , even broke a lug off that !!
I look into the castle settings thankyou . It failed though doing funnels in high wind which does work the tail very hard . But should not have give up the ghost !! |

I did that years ago with white and black gears lol
I not want to change the tail gear ratio , like it has is . Will just have to inspect them after every flying day or if I ever here any noises again . Seems like this is a comman problem though . |

Are you running the stock motor (490kv) and stock gearing (13/110) to achieve 2250 rpm? 12s?

I fly mainly in idle up 1 at 2050 not feel the need to be running at 2250 for my fly style

The red gears do look nice but is the material harder wearing ?
If so why didn't Align make the standard size in that material ? Would imagine there the same material just red . |

As the last few posts have discussed, Align do make both the new 23t TT gear and the 'old' 22t gear in red material. The red 22t gear is what now ships with the 700X kit but they haven't showed up as a spare part yet, I'm sure they will soon.

Seems to me then there admitting the black gears were not up to the job !!
I'm going to write an email to align UK later as not happy as this cost me £300 Atleast in spares plus even more important the safety aspect |

The real problem is that the TT gears are simply too small for the watts they are being asked to handle. They were adequate in 2007 when the original Trex 700 was designed but they need to be increased in size to handle today's monster motors.
The thing is they had to have new moulds made for the 700X boom mount and the new 102 tooth gear anyway so they could have moved the gears apart a bit and increased the diameter of the front drive gear. |

Looks like I will ground the 700X until I can get the new 22t red tail gears.. may have been stated but will the rear red tail gears be released to match the orginal release 700x tail ratio?

Really no reason to ground your machine. I've had numerous hard flights on the 700X, and my old 700E DFC with all black gears. |

I think there might be more to it than simply 'gears too weak' because some people are flying hard and have no trouble, it might come down to some setup factor. Governor gain 'too high' is one thing i know from personal experience will wear out and/or strip tail rotor bevel gears. Sloppy mesh is another factor.
