Default Goblin 500 and EDGE 520 blades

Hi guys,

today i tried my new EDGE 520mm blades and WOW now Gobler rocks x3!!!!

but is still have few questjons for more experienced users with same setup.

1. which ESC to use? now i have Talon, but i am afraid, that it can die another day....
2. How big batteries to use? i tried PULSE 3700 mah 45c, but esc is switching off on hard mooves... my Gens ace 5000 mah 45c from Gobler 700 seems to perform better. So with these blades 5000mah is the right ones?
3. tail blades. Which ones will be the right choise?

my setup
scorpion 4020 1300
talon
savox 1250
savox 1290
EDGE 520mm

Thanks for the report - sounds like you're enjoying them!

Which blades exactly? Edge 523mm? SE? FBL?

i am now on the field , waiting for motor and esc to cool down )))))) but as far as i remember 523 fbl.

they are much more wider than stock blades

Head speed is also the question... it seem that on 2600 rpm they eat my gens ace 5000 in 5 minutes...

and no hard 3d, i am just learning...

man i love that heli and new blades.

gone for 5 happy minutes

Larger blades = lower discloading, which means you can run lower headspeed, which = smaller pinion to gear for the lower headspeed. correct gearing is more critical if using larger blades and will keep things running cooler. Also remember that EDGE blades are not the most efficient blade on the market so they will need/use more power than some others out there.. The Gaui V3 blades with angled tips are much more efficient and will take less power to swing them over all. Until 526's from Rail comes out, I am sticking with the Gaui blades as IMO they are VERY close to the very efficient Rail blade design, Rail blades are know to have a VERY efficient airfoil along with a more officiant tip design over most other brands, so this means less power needed to swing them over all.

Thanks for your inputs!

What will be the optimal HS for these blades? Something around 2600-2700? I am still learning, but learning to agressive 3d side so i want fast heli

Also what about tail blades, are the KBDD 84mm safe to use withe these EDGE 520?

Now i am running edge 72mm

Since 520 blades are wider and longer, with about 15-20% more surface area, I would say drop about 200rpm from what you would fly 500mm's at, this should be a good starting point to get the machine to a similar performance to what you are used to on 500mm blades. Then adjust from there, I run 500mm's at 2800, and Gaui 520's at around 2650. Edge blades I would probably run around 2600ish as a guess. Remember to gear accordingly.

As far as tails, the KBDD 84.5's are a great deal. If you want ultamate holding power, try the EDGE 86mm as they will have a little better hold than the 84.5 KBDD blades.

Also if your on the higher HS range, maybe go with the KBDD as they are not quite so big, and will not raise the mechanical gain as much as the edge 86mm will. if your running lower range HS's the EDGE 86's would be a little better as they will hold better at the lower RPM's due to there wider chord/ more surface area.

I believe you have 608mm to work with total if memory serves. so 523 and 86 is cutting it close at 609mm. but 520mm and 86, you should be just fine @ 606mm.

72mm will not hold well under load if flying hard, be careful not to blow out the tail with those small tail blades.

it seem that EDGE 523 and KBDD 84,3 with total 607,3 is good too? I already tried them today, but didnt took my pc so wasnt able to turn vbar gain down.. will try again tomorrow!

now about Talon, i understant that my setup with Scorpion 4020-1350 and Edge 523 is too risky for Talon, its better to switch to Jazz 100lv or Yge 120lv? or i am wrong?

will run 2600 rpm governed and 2800 rpm for very few fast tictocs and rainbows

Many guys are running the Talon on the Gaui X5 with great results, the X5 is about identical in weight (both about 1900g with no batt) and X5 runs 520mm mains, you should be fine as long as your geared correctly for 2600 or so. on a 1350kv motor, that would be a 16T motor pulley I believe. 16t should be fine from 2550-2750ish. The 1350 is tough to gear for lower headspeeds due to its higher KV. 1100kv and 1200kv motors have a larger range for this particular heli.

Good luck, let us know how it works out for ya..

Just to let u know.
With goblin 500, 1350 motor, 16t pinion, 520mm blade, stock tail blade, 100a esc and 5000mah. Perfect at 2650rpm no tail kick. Will give you 3.4mins down to 3.8v on all cells very quick, also give 120-200degree hot motor and esc. Not a good idea during summer will buff ur battery.

. But if u get 1100kv motor and 16t help alot with large blade like 520mm 2500rpm 3d.

I run a Scorpion HK4020-1100 with talon, a 18T pinion with Edge FBL 523's & Edge 85 on the tail, they have about 2mm clearance, 4500 65C Nano Tech A spec battery @ 2600 rpm, 6.5 min sport/aerobatic, lots of big air stuff, rolls, loops, high speed runs, quick stops/flips the motor runs at ambient air temp + 20deg C, the Talon at ambient air temp + 10deg C, Batteries at 30% remaining on landing, over 300 flights (150 on each battery?), fly's really nice at that, I have the option od ST 2 @ 2700 rpm, but only if I want to smack it around a bit harder, (shorten flight time by 30 sec for that) no issues, batteries getting a bit tired now, planning on some Gen Ace next time round

One very happy G500 owner

I have some extra 520mm blades lying around and want to try them on my g5. However im worried about a blade strike. Are you guys rolling with stock length or did you do the stretch kit?

If you use standard length tail blades you'll be safe, or you can play russian roullette like me and run 525's + 86's
