TDR - Ready for maiden...
Folks,
Some pics of my newly built Henseleit TDR.. Purchased the frame 2nd hand - but in very good nick.. have finally got all the pieces togather and done some test hovers in the back yard.. All systems go for the maiden as soon as I get over my flu - grrrrr. Wiring is a pin on these things - no space and of course I had to use a bec so even more wiring.. when all sorted properly i'll cut, shorten and tidy it all up a little better. Specs: * TDR Airframe * CY 710's on mains * pyro 30-12 motor with 14T pinion * Hawk 120A esc and Gryphon Quasar BEC at 6V * Vbar + spektrum sats * Hyperion phase sensor * Futaba BLS451's on cyclic and BLS251 on tail * GensAce 4000mah 25c batts

You'll love her, but does the test hovers not qualify for a maiden?

I'll change my wording to Maiden Flight... implying at least some forward flight hmm - but then again - hovering can be flight too..... oh it's getting hard... but I hope you know what I mean anyway ...

I don't see any hot glue on you vbar sensor plug, get some on there...quickly, with the spiral in your wire it will create a swinging mass unplugging it. Also add some cable ties to that wire to keep it stable ,
Like your setup, the hawk works very well with vbar gov |

You need to shorten your tail bolts to be flush with the nuts...
Apparently they act as chinese weights otherwise. I thought this was pushing it a bit and probably a load of bollocks, but I still shortened mine... https://www.helifreak.com/showthread...=400048&page=4 |

I am sorry to go off topic, but we tested the effect of longer screws on our first build, the force needed on the servo was looking like to be the same, no matter if original or 20mm screws were used.
We even reversed the screws to have the nut outside and no difference. On my current build, the original screws do not touch the locking part of the nut so i used some longer ones again. I had a problem with tail bouncing back on CW stops, we tried replace and reverse the screws and it made no difference.

Jointer - From my test hovers I already notice the bounce-backs on CW (right hand) quick stops.. CCW is perfect so far. Did you manage to resolve this ? if so was it mechanical or a Vbar setting?

I've now reduced the stopping speed in the settings, but still need to try it out. |

Congrats!! and looking great!! I share the thoughts on that the sensor cable at present might cause some vib trouble. I am not a spektrum guy but I was reading Costas thread
http://www.archeli.com.au/forums/sho...d.php?t=136223 about rx installs the other day and am wondering if your sat placement is bullet proof? I would hate to hear of you having trouble. I have seen two nasty crashes at our field of recent where DSM2 sats have "bugged out" and I suspect less than optimal placement had some part of the cause!! I LOVE my TDR so much I have almost entirely stopped browsing for new birds and I suspect you will too.(Love it, not sure on the browsing part!!) Just did another 8 flights today dailing in my new GT-5 and I must say it is totally awesome. Got the tail close to perfect in two flights of tweaking!! The best of luck and great weather!!!!

I tried lot of things and i suppressed it enough to be "more happy", but it is still there.
The mechanical way described here helped a lot, my current setup will have only tiny pitch advance and it might be the solution. Best description: https://www.helifreak.com/showpost.p...81&postcount=3 And global search for the problem in this forum (tail bounce): https://www.helifreak.com/search.php?searchid=9716658 Over the last 4 years i found around 6 cases of this problems, half of them on Logo 600. It depends how anal you are about the setup, it does not have noticable influence in flight, but something is wrong there - unfortunately, i think it might be TDR itself, because the high mechanical pitch by default is correct for classic gyro, but the Vbar probably needs something else. I can say long time ago i had similar issue on T500 with Gyrobot, but there was a parameter for setting something like "tail control centre" which cured this issue completely (except the value was strange, but it was working perfectly). Edit: Ah, and the bounce is more visible the more RPM you spin, at least in my case.

@Donskills - I purposely placed the sats where they are for clear reception as it's the left antenna element that actually "receives"... both left sides have clear open space.
Well - fingers crossed all is ok.. my eyesight is not what it used to be so i don't fly so far away.. but sometimes I do.. lol @jointer - i think i have the same issue on another heli with vbar too and it seems to be a common issue with tail gyros... i'll see how it goes and have a play and see if i can refine it more..

I would be interested in comparing the stop gain settings with you after the tail is optimized. I'm using sk540, so should be the same settings bar servo differences.

Well - maiden went smoothly...
Heli flies really nicely so far... was quite overcast and I forgot my proper video camera so had to get some freinds at the club to use my iphone to take some vids for me.. Was too nervous to sus out the tail kicks yet / if they are happening still.. later.. lol Low quality iphone ones but better than nothing I guess.. The maiden: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctZkdHJYfrU[/ame] Flight #3 - some beginner speed runs at 11.5deg and 80% throttle [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccQ8Qyya5UQ[/ame]
