Anyone know for sure?

Also...any recommendations on inexpensive ones? I generally run Turnigy or Zippy. They've worked well for me. I wanted to try Gens Ace because they seem to be fairly reasonable in price, but I don't know where to find them in stock.

I'm "assuming" that most 5000's would fit since that is what it's designed to take. I order a couple GA's from rotorquest.com They come with EC5, which is what I use, I hate soldering connectors on these big batteries. I also have a couple green pulse 5000s, so I will not be happy if they don't fit.

On 5.2 that setting is not there. There is a mount direction in the setup menu but its to allow mounting vertically. I wonder if 5.1 is the same but the icon makes it look like the gyro is rotating on the yaw axis.

In 5.2 there is also a setting for virtual rotation but that is for multi rotor phasing.

Thanks for your looking into it though.

I noticed that the battery they offer as an accessory to the Heli is 45x50.

In looking at Nick's video where hey show the installed battery, there definitely looks to be a restriction on side to side dimension. Maybe I am reading too much into it. I don't have any 5000 batteries yet, so I didn't want to buy something that won't fit.

Yes, they refer to the 2 positions as vertical & horizontal (Chinglish lol) One position is bus out the rear, other should be bus out the side.

Thanks, I just tried it and no, it's actually vertical and horizontal. So I can mount it on the side of the heli, but the wires have to be front or back. I guess the Germans don't speak Chinglish...

Yep that's the one I was looking at. But the manual for the gt5.2 says specifically you cant mount it like that. I wanted to look at the settings but the manual for the e550 shows the settings for gt5.1

Just have to wait and see I guess.

I'm on the "wait and see" bandwagon as well. I just put in my order for one.

Still looking for the definitive answer. Here's what I know so far.

Hmm... that's going to be interesting since I already have a couple of Haiyin 5000 packs that are 50x55x147mm.

Just measure my E700, width between frames is 57mm, I don't think it will be a problem. I was hoping to be able to change batteries without removing the canopy (as advertised) we'll see about that.....hope so.

And I'm told that the demo flight was with stock servos

Awesome! The real challenges for me will be:

1. Using the BEC in the Talon (I'm an RX pack kind of guy)
2. Using the GT5.2 (I'm a VBar kind of guy)
3. Using the governor in the Talon (I'm a VBar governor kind of guy)

But to give the combo a fair shake, I've got to at least try it as delivered!

Ya, I'm a skookum/YGE guy. The GT5 really is an underrated FBL unit though, I thought about setting my E700 up with one, but they are flying great on my 325s.

I'm also going to just fly it "out of the box" give it a fair review, then I'll go from there.

My local hobby shop has got the trex 550 dfc *no 3gx* on sale for 679. I have an e620 so I still think an e550 is best for me for sharing parts.... hmmm

Thanks, looks like they only come in 25C

BTW... looking at Nick's video again, you can see where they have the battery. It's pushed up to, not not at those posts. I can only assume that the CG will be fine with it there, making that 44mm restriction a non issue. I'm about to stop stressing and just buy some batteries. : )

BTW...already have tracking number for my E550....it's gettin real up in here!

I decided to go ahead and take one for the team. I ordered a couple of Nano Tech 5000mah 35~70C. They are 49mm x 50mm. That’s about the typical size of a 5000mah 6S battery, so I think the best thing I can do is just buy them, see if they fit, and report back. (Those of you that already have 5000mah batts are likely to report in as well...

I have to remember that I consider this a budget 550 purchase. It’s the best bang for the buck setup I have seen. Folks like me that are looking for the most economical way to get into a quality 550 sized heli are likely to look for batteries that also fit that budget model. These Nano-Techs were $85 each, and that’s reasonable. I just can’t see spending $200 on a single battery. BTW…here's the buddy code to get these batteries for $79!

I don't like the nano techs. I've found them to puff rather easily.

The heli comes with a 90a esc, so I wouldn't imagine you'll pull much more than that for very long. (bursts).

A 25C 5000mah battery will provide 25x5amps = 125amps. I've had good results with the zippy compacts so far. They are slightly smaller so, for example, where I would fly a normal 2200mah pack I can fit a 2450 zippy compact.

The 6s 5000mah is $51

I've got a tracking number! It won't be here for the weekend, but that's OK... I have other projects to clear off the bench first.
