"New 550"

I was surfing around this site a couple weeks ago and found a post in the servos for sale thread from non other than Charley Stephens himself. Appears he's moving and wanted to move some stuff so he didn't have to take it with. I posted a question asking if he had any 550 stuff he wanted to "dump" and wouldn't you know it he answered yes. After a couple PMs back and forth it looks like I'm going to add another O550 to my fleet. Pretty cool to think I'll be flying one of his helis....

This bird is a cult classic as far as I'm concerned. It's kinda the one that put Charley on the map, isn't it?

At any rate, glad to hear yet another Outrage 550 will continue to fly!

That's what I thought... I also asked him to sign the canopy for me. He said he'd be happy to.....

Well, it came the other day and I couldn't be happier. Another O550 in the stable. As promised, Charley signed one of the canopies he sent along(5 in all!) and the heli looks as I expected it to, Awesome!

Ah, the original....it's the only one that has some cracks in it. Just paint cracks but I'd be willing to let that one go. It even has Charley's initials inside. Can you PM me your email address? I'll shoot you some better pics to make sure you'll still want it...

Wasn't that signed canopy the original "demo" canopies ? Very rare !
Was very disappointed when both mine , from the first ever batch , did not come with those canopies .
At least one of them was designated for Greg Alderman, which he kindly let me have, as the first batch was sold out !
(edit) Still have one of them flying , with lots of spares

I believe you are right. Charley said he was sending some neat stuff with the heli, including some prototype stuff. He sent along quite a bag of spare parts. Lots of Orange stuff, landing gear, frames, ball links...pretty cool stuff.....the heli is built with all Orange stuff too. I'll get some pics up when I get a chance...

OK, a couple new pics....
Are any of you guys familiar with the Old Outrage 2 axis FBL controller? This heli has that system with a Spartan 760 Gyro and I'm having a problem. I'm not getting any power to the gyro or tail. The receiver synced up fine and everything else seems to work fine but the Gyro is telling me its not getting a signal( slow blinks). I plugged the tail servo directly in ahead of the BEC and it works fine. Not sure whats going on with it. Is it worth trying to use or should I just look for a new 3 axis FBL controller?

I bought my O 550 in January 2009 when they first came out. I loved the prototype canopy on the website and I was also disappointed when the heli didn't come with it. Nice find and take care of that canopy!

I have never seen or heard of the Outrage 2axis FBL contoller that works with an external tail gyro. Have you got more deatils of this. Personally I would just get decent 3axis controller.

after talking to Charley I found out it is a rebranded Skookum 360. I did some research and several guys are still using them with great success. I did some more testing on the heli and it looks like the Spartan may be the problem. I replaced it with a JR770 that I had spare and everything looks like it's working fine. My plan is to probably replace it with a 3 axis when I get the funds but I hope to be able to fly it as is for now...

I still have my Outrage 550 ready to fly but it isn't FBL. It unfortunately just sits non the shelves with the rest of my fleet

It's worth the small investment to go FBL on the 550 - it flys like a different machine!

James, your in Georgia, you should be able to go fly anytime! I wish I could say that, is supposed to be -9 for a high here the next couple days....

The Rage flys again and it looks cool too! Thank you for selling me the canopy.

Since it seems like parts aren't being made anymore(why I switched from a BeastX to an ikon for the SL) I sure wish Charlie would pick this design back up and make us some parts. Matt

It is 69f this Sunday afternoon but there are still traces of snow that haven't melted yet from a snow last Tuesday
Last Friday morning it was 4f

Not normal weather for the area but it happens
