mSR newbie
Hey, I was researching on the internet and it seems to be pointing towards this being the go-to forum for my Heli's. I just got a blade mSR after my mCX was left sitting in my room for a couple years with little use (I felt like I had out-grown it, and didn't really have time anwyays). So now i've become addicted to these little things again! I've been told by quite a few people not to modify it, but the controls seem really choppy, sometimes it'll act like it has miniature seizures and bobs back and forth before regaining control, would this be fixed by upgrading to a new controller?
I plan on getting either a Nano CPX or mCPX BL once I master the MSR, so if I could get a controller that was capable of handling all of my Heli's that would also be pretty cool. I have yet to break it (thankfully, and surprisingly) but it has had a few encounters with a bush, a chair, and the grass (mostly the grass). I've come to appreciate how fast this little thing can get going once it has a little space, but for some reason it never wants to dip all the way forward when I tell it to unless I hold it on full forward for 2-5 seconds. Is this a safety feature or am I perhaps doing something wrong? Sorry for the long post, I'm working on mastering my mSR and if i broke something that I didn't know of I'd like to fix it ASAP, so far I've been having tons of fun though! |

Congratulations on taking the hobby up again! The mSR is a bit out of date and (I think) withdrawn now but it's still fun to fly. It's pretty docile and the flybar does get in the way of its performance, the "pendulum effect" you describe can't be got rid of and you just have to learn to fly with it not against it. The delays you've noticed are also about right, just make sure you have the high rates set to get the best.
You've read right, don't upgrade and bling it out if you want to keep what performance it has. Probably the only worthwhile upgrade is a short-arm alloy swashplate such as the Xtreme one. Xtreme also do alloy hub and anti-rotation guides and these are worth it since the stock plastic ones wear the guides over time, allowing slop. Keep the head parts replaced as they wear, especially the flybar and you'll keep it flying well. If you're looking to upgrade the transmitter, a lot depends on your plans for the future and how deep your pockets are. At the budget end, Spektrum have just launched the DX6, which looks to have an impressive spec. This also means the DX6i that it replaces will become very cheap, either new or second-hand. A DX6i is very capable and could serve you well for years but is looking a bit dated and limited now, compared to newer models. Higher than that, you could go for a DX7 or DX8 if you think you'll need more channels in the future.

I have a MSR and I certainly have not mastered it but I can keep it in the air.
I also have a Nano cp. Several suggestions, things others have told me. 1. get it in the air quickly, It will behave badly on the ground. 2. you have to fly it with the sticks, It will not stay in one place by it self. 3. It responds to the sticks differently; If you tell it to go left it keeps going left even if you let go of the stick, same with forward, backward, right. Again; You have to fly it. Don |

Awesome, thank you!
I don't exactly have deep pockets (college kid), but at least one (mCP X BL) of my future purchases only come as BNF. I'm willing to take time and save up for a quality receiver if that's worth the long-term investment and will support all 3 (mSR, Nano CP x, and mCP X BL) and possibly more heli's. (perhaps a larger class hell in the future, I do love the micro copters though!) |

Easy to modify the stock swashplate for stronger cyclic response rates:

I have 2 msr's and got the dx6i because just got the 450x and have couple blade quads. Its like night and day between stock tx and dx6i. Have been working on settings and adjusting links and have these things flying so smooth and nice I just cant believe how much fun they are now. The dx6i is very affordable and it sounds like with where your headed for now it would be good for you for several years. Could probably find a good used one pretty cheap
