Default Hot ESC

Hello all,

I have a 600 ESP purely stock. I am running turnigy 6S 5000mah batts for only 4 min. I only hover and do basic circuits. I have noticed that the ESC is hot to the touch after the first flight. The battery isn't even warm, the deans connectors at the ESC are not hot, the wires going to the motor are warm and the motor is only warm. Even with all of this the ESC is still very hot. I have read that the ESP ESC's were not that great and am curious if I got one that is bad. This bird is over two years old and just recently decided to start flying again.

Any suggestions on the ESC.

Thanks everyone

You want the ESC and motor running near 85% output .Much less stress on the components.

Running in idle up from take off, 95%flat curve. Again the esc is the only thing hot, all other components warm.

Thanks

You need to get a temp gun to measure what exactly "hot" is... 125-140 is pretty close to normal

From review I have read on the stock Trex600ESP, they all mention the Align ESC as being the 'weakest link' in the supplied electronics. I think you will find that the temperatures you experiencing are the norm for that component and being the reason it is mostly criticized in a 6S setup.

Ok thank you. I have read that the Castle HV 80 is a common replacement. For my set up is this ok, if it is will I have to watch my flying style as I progress because its only 80amps opposed to the stock 100.

If anything it should be the ICE100 but think, if you would want to go 12S in the future so the HV80 should be under consideration.

Consider that the problem might be the BEC on the ESC. Are your links nice and loose? No binding allowed!

I just wanted to start a new thread but this is exactly where i wanted to post.
Saturday for the first time i've flown my 600 on a 100 amp align esc on 6s and also noticed the esc is running hot, i can keep my finger n the heatsink but not for too long after flight.
of 5 minutes.

my esc sits in front of the battery inside the canopy, would it really make that much of a difference if i moved the es to the side ? Will this esc eventually fail ?

Is there perhaps some sort of mod i can to to make it run cooler.

Bec is also seperate.

Giving it some fresh air will certainly help towards cooling it down. Will it fail? difficult to say but it is the most voulenrable component in the electronics, so if you can afford to upgrade sooner rather than later, I would probably recommend it. It is worth waiting for input from ppl who actually use Align ESC's though for their experiences.

I just stumbled upon the mother of threads for this esc: (albeit an old thread, maybe the newer align's run cooler or not ?)

http://67.228.244.248/showthread.php?t=152161&page=10

However after reading a couple pages i'm still
undecided, but i guess i'll fly it, not going to do any hard 3d moves for that's not how i fly.
So will just do 5 minute flights, let it cool and fly again.
