Figures, my 700L is in the mail

I did see the Top was going to be "available soon", I am not planning to use the Castle Cremation so a 160 or 120 doesn't make a diff to me... The Matte finish is kinda cool, I saw a Agile 7.2 with that finish, it was sweet!

The 700 I used to fly had the 700MX, and it was powerful enough for me, so I bet the 800MX will work good for my 2.5D flying

How are you guys planning to power the HV servos?

Imo, a 2s lipo straight in is the way to go, and the biggest reason to have hv servo's.

+1

For 700 heli I much prefer 480-490 kV motors over 530-560 kV motors. They have more torque. They will keep RPM without governor better than higher kV morots. I assume they will also be easier for governor to keep RPM.

If someone is looking for insanely high RPM 560kV could be better.

I do not like very high RPM in 700-800 because it can increase power consumption three times or even more. Result is short fligh time, heat, short longevity of bearings, higher lipo requirements regarding C rating, heavy weight due to heavy lipos and motor etc.

el quapo has TDR. I wonder if he confirms.

My friend sold TDR due to the fact that at high RPM tail rotor was turning to fast. Jan Henseleit recommends lower RPMs.

At high RPM TDR user can probably put shorter tail blades but it is not perfect heli for smack according to my friend who sold it.

I just do 2s lipo. But I use JR 8717HV. Although Some guys say that a constant voltage source is better. I've run my RX pack too low before and tail performance was decreased. Thats all I noticed.

The new align servos are supposed to be real efficiant.so, a BEC would probably work out pretty good.

FWIW TDR has a 4.9 tail ratio. It's higher then a Dominator(4.7) but it's the same as a logo700. I like the trex at 2150rpm. I like to beat on it. That is why I have it.

Thanks guys, I thought about a straight lipo, there is nothing stopping it from running at 8.4.

How are the servo temps at that high voltage?

brush-less servos are like magic. they sip current. anyway there is a strong correlation between power used and heat.

dchekas made a video demonstrating how efficient the new servos are.

Align BL815 and BL855 Servo Test (7 min 38 sec)

Thanks for the vid, those servos look great. I'm in the process of buying new servos for the fleet and I was leaning toward Futaba, but now I have to rethink this.......https://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=643262

the core-less cyclic servos are popular again. They have better specs. but they suck down a 2S lipo pretty quickly. I've gone back to core-less. it works for me because when I fly my 700, I bring a generator. so it's no big deal to recharge my RX pack every 3 flights.

but I still have some helis on brush-less servos, and I get away with really tiny lipos and I could get 8 flights out of an 1000mA RX lipo. And you have less worry about brown outs and such.

That's silly. ;-)

RX packs are cheap. I bought 6 packs, charge them all in parallel at 3C before I go fly. They yield 30 flights easily, more than what you could realistically do in a day.

That being said, on all my new setups, I use a WR BEC Pro (with integrated servo power bus), plus an Optipower Ultraguard. So I have a hastle free light weight redundant servo power bus. IMO RX packs are pretty much a dead idea unless the servos I use are so insane I have to use something like a Reactor HVX with a 3s RX LiPo.

please expand on what you mean by that? They draw too much current? Or, you like them.

High performance servos require a good power source. RX lipo or BEC with enough output capacitance.

I've been running 270Ts for some time now. Using a 2550 Pulse lipo straight. Works flawlessly. Before that I was using Scott Grey before and dumped them all.

They should be stateside within a week or so, and you'll see them at dealers shortly thereafter.

Pulse 2s2550 Rx pack here. I get 12 flights with 9180/9188 servos which is just about my exhaustion point for a single day of flying.

Wow, 4 flights are good and 6 are the most I can go. Mind is too tire, LOL.

No doubt it depends on your flying style. I also was using the pulse 2550. 4 flights and I would be at about 3.85 per cell. I just got 3600s.
