Default Align 700?

So what's the thoughts on making an Align 700 into a contest machine? Any good tips/mods that might make it more competitive out of its comfort zone of 3D?

Not as good as a seroius F3C machine, but still very capable, especially upstairs...

F3C blades and paddles, guy I know put the rotortech sc720 blades, along with F3C paddles...

Im not sure, but you may be able to flip the blade grips to change the delta (im not expert on this)

Thank you so much. I have thought about getting a JR Vibe 90 or perhaps the new SG model but it would be great to simply modify one of my two Align 700's for contest flying if possible. Any other thoughts or input would be appreciated. This forum is great!

Those are great machines, but as far as I know they are not F3C machines, IMHO the Trex700 would be just as good at contest flying. Seroius F3C machines I was refering to were Sylphides, Caliber 90, MA Stratus.

F3C has more hovering than flying around, if you are aiming for points, Im not sure what type of comps you are flying, but over here the class 2 and 3 are a bit more upstairs orientated, which would make the 700 even more suitable.

Like I said, Im no expert, but have seen a 700 hold its own in F3C.

If you search you can find the mods Nick Maxwell did to his 700 that took the Align comp last month. I know for sure he flipped the grips, not sure about the rest..but its in one of the threads about the comp. But the point is, the changes he made were to improve tracking and precision. Granted this was for a 3D comp but the mods he made would work for F3C as well. Plus G-Force now makes adjustable mixer and washout arms for the 700 so now there really is not much you couldn't set up that head to do. Really the only draw back of using a 700 would be its light weight in windy conditions as the judges don't pay attention to any wind and judge everyone the same regardless if your peers flight was in dead calm and yours unfortunately is in 20mph.

Hi

in france, we are some to use trex700 for F3C, and one of the great French's team use it too , so, it's a cool and cheap way to go into F3C with it

for damper, just use the standard damper and cut a little part of it (upper and lower part), to make it a little loose, and that's done

Hi Tyio,

"cut a little part of it (upper and lower part)", you meant trim the length, make it shorter or to cut like "castle" head?

Thanks

There are quite a few F3C 700 being build right now. The only diferences are the swash and hiller mixers have a hair more flybar bias, it comes with soft head dampeners and a nice helical main gear. Thats it!

YOU CAN use a regular TRex700N or E if you just soften the head dampers, add some flybar weights, get the CG neutral at 75%full tank and add GOOD FAI blades like CYs, RTechs, or FAI Funtech (rare) . Is a good startup machine if you have already one.

The rest a good setup, is been written many times, here, in RR and precisionheli.com

Find a AMA/FAI contest to go to, you will learn the most that way.

I am not sure there is a non-3D event within a thousand miles of me

Around here flying a straight line or hovering for more than 3 seconds is considered poor form!!
