Post The safest multirotor thats no longer for sale.

I was searching for something else (isnt that always how it works?) and came across a really interesting quadcopter design.

http://safeflightcopters.com/SFC4410

If you navigate to the main page from the link theres a nice note stating these multirotors are no longer being made.

Maybe the looks of this quad were a turn off for some. I think it looks neat. Theres a prototype on another forum that looked even cooler. It sort of resembles the Enterprise from Star Trek.

http://forums.openpilot.org/topic/12114-first-fully-protected-propellers-on-a-multirotor-quadtrihex/

Btw if there is no pic in this post it means I shouldnt do hotlinks.

I havent owned the model shown here but I've heard it failed due to poor quality. I've seen a few smallish multirotors that have bumpers outside of the prop radius. Its not a full fan shroud but its a start.

I'm glad this company at least attempted to make a safer product, even though their first attempt was unsuccessful.

I fly a Nano CPx, among others. I've (accidentally) hit myself (and various furniture) with it at 100% head speed. It leaves a slight red mark, only if it hits bare skin.

If you want real "safety," there's this, too. But then again, it's cheap, really heavy for its size, and probably doesn't perform very well.

I agree that the "toy" grade helis shouldn't come with 3000 rpm 400mm carbon rotors, but there's going to be a certain amount of risk when you step up to the "hobby grade" ones. That's one reason (one of many) why you don't see Trex-700's for sale at Toys R Us.

Excuse me, but that was not a joke. When I was still flying the Compass 6hv I had it equipped with 5050 size led strings running on 3s. And the leds I used were even brighter. Sourced from digikey and mouser, a couple of them are rated for 350ma max and 2 of them are rated for 500ma max current draw. With the resistors I'm using they are operating at more like 180ma or so, but they are still too bright to look at up close.

Night flying was amazing with that thing, but I quit flying it since its just too big for my local park even when the field is completely empty.

Those leds were waaaaay too bright to view up close. Anytime you look at a light source, close your eyes and can still see a distinct after-image, its almost a sure sign what you are seeing is too bright.

WTF is that contraption? I am getting physically nauseated looking at it.

It's supposed to hover over your outstretched hand by means of a proximity sensor controlling the throttle.

It's horrible, doesn't work and for some reason costs £25 in ASDA.

Depressed me to see it again.
