Default How many "derp" moments can you spot in this crash vid

Doing some research this morning and ran across this video - never seen it before.

Keep watching after the crash......

This is a good lesson of 5-6 things NOT to do after crashing a big heli....

My main thing would have been to engine kill, and if that didnt work, have control of the head and tail when picking it up. Also after the tail hit and he lost control he went ahead and shot it towards the crowd.

Notice the guy picking it up was not the pilot - the pilot was holding the Tx and proceeded to give it throttle while his friend was holding it, hitting him in the arm.

The crash itself seemed very minimal because of those everglades he landed in. Seemed like maybe some tail blades and gears and it was good to go again.

What a dick move. I can't believe the pilot throttled that heli while it was in the hands of someone else. If I were that guy I would have decked him.

Though they werent moving fast, I dont believe that stopping the rotors' rotation with your leg is ever a good idea either.

That is one of the more dangerous videos I have seen in a very very long time. Notice the guy on the left on the bike in the beginning? No more than 5 feet from that funnel he was doing. I literally about had a heart attack when the blades spooled up into that guys neck. Just a little bit more throttle and he could have died very easily.

Default Idiots are everywhere

I don't believe he gassed on purpose, however the fact that he did is about just as responsible as DUI. To bad there is no license, it should have been revoked. If I was the guy holding the heli, I would have grabbed the tail and clubbed the pilot with it. On the other hand I will never be the guy holding the heli and not the radio, I got enough sense not to do things like that. At least no one was seriously wounded.

I have an issue with hitting the tail mechanics with your shim and having a bicycle there.

He is up for a Darwin award that is for sure. Flying with Peds on the other side of the Flight line. Flying a 700 size heli towards yourself in close proximity, reckless endangerment of spectators, failure to understand operation of equipment,

Hope this guy learned something here,

Looked at the video and have to say - first thing if head is not moving - kill the engine.
The person moving it maybe at faul for not killing the engine. If linkage comes off on a nitro there is no way to kill it with the radio.
If moving it with engine running -> throttle might move (as it looks like it did in the video when he put it back on the ground). and yes it spools up. Lucky for them it did not spool up much and they finally killed the engine closing the pipe.

We cannot see the throttle inputs made on the radio so it may not be a good idea to judge what input was given or not.
Still as a pilot I would not have another person walk up my crashed machine. I would simply do it myself.

1) Pilot liked to fly a little too close (for my comfort anyway) - I ducked a couple times!
2) Don't pick up someone else's heli after a crash
3) Don't assume that person hit the throttle hold
4) Don't hold a heli (someone else's heli that just crashed) with the blades facing your... FACE...
5) And were those idiots (two different people) trying to plug the tail pipe to kill the motor with their bare hands??? (I didn't have sound when I watched it so I'm not sure...) You know that shit is hot, right?
