Hello All,
Had 7 flights with the Chaos 600 this weekend, including the maiden flight. Set up is V2 align tail with KDE linkage kit. Ino-lab servos with align servo wheels. Skookum flybarless with 2 spektrum receivers. KDE 164T main gear and 14 tooth pinion. Home made bracket to move battery (6 Cell 5,000 Mah) forward for correct CG. It flew very well (newbie pilot) and first flight of a 600.

Thumbs up

I agree, and use them for the same reason, lol. I have the same style of fin on my 450 and it helps. I have a much easier time seeing what the 600 is doing and that is why I purchased it.

Just a heads up.....
Double check your gear mesh, something sounds a little off to my ears.... It may be nothing but I would go through it again just to be sure....

Very nice job by the way

Thank You!

I checked the mesh again, it looks ok and checked every tooth of the main gear. I see no abnormal wear or flaking of the teeth. I had to set it a little tight (not binding), because when the gear spun around it was way too loose in some spots.

It is a KDE main gear and a 14 tooth Rhino gear steel pinion. The motor is not drawing much current, my 7 flights averaged only 1,620 MAH for a 5 minute flight. But I agree it does sound weird at certain rpm's. I have a Skookum on board and viewing the vibration file show no abnormal vibration. I suspect if it was too tight I would have excessive power consumption and excessive vibration.

I am very happy the power consumption is so low, I will be able to fly at least 10 minutes and stay under 80% discharge. I know that will change when I learn 3D stuff. Thanks for the advice!

HoverGuy,

That makes me miss my original orange canopy-I have the skull one now, but I liked that orange one. I may see if they are in stock.

This is what mine looks like, presently:

The tail boom is (obviously) a replacement from another manufacturer that I had on hand.

12S, Compass Motor, KBDD Dampers and EE Tail Blades, Compass Motor, WR Super Hercules BEC, HobbyWing 70 Amp HV ESC, JR servos, BeastX.

Flies very well!

I see you are using a red boom too, lol! I actually like your canopy better then mine. How do you like that rotor head? Mine has a slight wobble as it does not have those 2 additional screw clamps at the bottom. Nice looking heli.

Sadly, I smacked the nice CF boom that came with it (it went the same time the canopy went). It was a very bad crash, but there was not too much damage to the machine, itself (the head survived with a wrinkled blade grip arm and one broken drive tube)..

I love the head, it is a direct replacement on this helicopter (it is made as an upgrade for the similar Trex 600) so no mods were required. It provides very smooth and very crisp/quick cyclic.

I think I put about 20 flights on this machine, this week, alone. I have several different brands of 600E's and rotate them (flying a different one each week) in an attempt to spread the wear on them. This one is holding up well.

The canopy is kind of growing on me. I am a little old for the skull thing, though (I am really, really old..).

Don't listen to Ah Clem about the age thing, I've seen him at the field and he fly's like a 20 year old... only a lot smoother.... with about 20 more years of experience.

Superhornet,

Thank you sir!

Sorry I did not make it out to Whittier this weekend.

Ghostflyer1,

I am 55, look like I am 85, but feel like a million (sadly, a million years old...).

Ah Clem,

I have been looking around for that tracX rotor head, no one has it in stock

I like the spacers between the blade grips and the blades. My blades are already getting chewed up from folding them back to store the heli. Any ideas?
I would be willing to try that Chaos black widow head, but fear it will have a wobble like my stock (old style) Chaos FBL head has.

Did you have to change the head dampers? I see that head uses o rings. Will standard dampers fit? Does the t-rex feathering shaft fit that head, or do you use a compass shaft?

Sorry for all the questions. I guess I am really, really old too Ah Clem, we are the same age, lol

I tried to fly heli's back in the 80's (hirobo shuttle). Gave up, too many crashes, parts were expensive. I was big into planks back then. I am so stoked to be able to fly heli's now. You CAN teach an old dog new tricks Thank goodness for flight simulators and microheli's, that is how I have gotten this far.

Hoverguy,

"Thank goodness for flight simulators and microheli's,"

Man, you are not kidding!

The simulator is the best thing to hit model helicopters, ever!

I learned to fly on a Revolution I back in 1976, had a Shuttle in the 1980's (still have the remnants of my first one and my second one, in tact, but completely frozen up).

To answer your questions, specifically:

The TracX head can use its own dampers or KBDD's (I use the KBDD Lime Green or Royal Blue EE's). The spindle is the same as the Compass-the Trex one will not fit. If you are looking for one, just check Nankin or the other dealers periodically (I am doing so myself now, as I want to convert yet another machine-I still have a lot of flybarred ships).

I don't have any knowledge about the Black Widow Head. I am sure that Ghostflyer1, Mattox, Flying High450, or Dr. Evil will be happy to answer your questions about it..

The black widow head is exactly designed after the compass so everything the tracx takes the BW takes. The kbdd dampeners are great inside this head and have a very locked in feel during the entire flight. I would recommend the compass and the BW head to anyone who has not tried it yet!
