Default ESC selection opinion please.

So I'm building A chaos 550 and am at the point of selecting an ESC. I like the Castle stuff so will stick with that for now but would appreciate your opinion
Wanted to try the inexpensive stuff from Hobby King (Turnigy) so I've got their servos and the Motor.
The setup:
RotoStar 800kv motor, 6s, 10.6 gear ratio, HS 1500 with a 16 tooth pinion and 1600rpm with a 17 tooth pinion.

Flying is just scale all upright and gentle....hope to stuff this in a body after I get it all working. The motor spec is 100Amp max...which I assume is continuous, 3700w. 6s at 100a is only 2200 watts.. so I would think a Talon 90 is probably OK as is the Edge 100. Although I think only the Edge has data logging.

Thoughts?
Thanks :-)

I've been running a Talon 90 in my TRex 550 -- presumably similar to Chaos -- for a couple of years now. For most of its life it's been in a scale JetRanger fuselage, and I was concerned that it gets a bit too hot. According to my Eagle Tree logger it peaks at around 135 degrees at the end of a 7-minute flight. I was thinking of perhaps swapping it for a Talon 120 to try and keep the temperature down, but for the moment I've installed a CC fan on it instead, and that reduces the peak temperature by about 5 degrees.

The Talon doesn't have data logging, I believe, so the Edge 100 might be a better bet from the logging and temperature points of view.

I think the Hobbywing 100A V3 Platinum is the best ESC available for a 550 today.

+1

You can do the complete setup with TX stick input. You need nothing. If you want, you can buy a ProgBox or you can buy a cheap USB Programming Adapter for 5 bucks from Hobbywing

If you have the opportunity to be selective and pick an ESC I would definitely go for a 100A minimum with software-based data logging capability. It is an invaluable tool to be able to see exactly how your helicopter is performing in the air. The Castle products have the best data logging software IMO. An Edge 100A would probably suffice, but if you think you'll upgrade to something more powerful in the future like a Scorpion or KDE motor you might as well get the 130A esc now.

Decided to try the Hobbywing 100a. Save the $40 and bought the prog box. We'll see how it goes. Using Rotostar motor and Rotostar servos too. Trying to see if it really matters when it's all scale like flying anyway. Better to have $ in pocket for future projects. Although with Align kits I never had to shop for anything else.

Thanks
