Default Blade 500X tail rotor grip recall

Unfortunately, we have a recall on the SOME tail grips of the 500X. There are two styles that have been used in production, we are ONLY recalling ONE of those types. Please read this recall bulletin carefully.
http://www.bladehelis.com/ProdInfo/F...rip_Recall.pdf

Below is a picture showing the two different grips. The one on the RIGHT is the recalled grip, the one on the left is GOOD. The arrows and circles clearly show the differences.

Unfortunately I do not have the box anymore so I do not have my serial #. So i called horizion to see if they could go off the order # from when I purchased the heli direct from them in the end of January and they had no answer for me. But going off the diagram it doesnt look like my blade grips are the elongated off center ones but its hard to be sure. This is pretty annoying even though its kind of the nature of the hobby. Being that it is a bind-n-fly it is def scary though. Just my 2 cents.

It should be pretty obvious if you have the affected grips. If you're still unsure post up a picture, I can tell the difference easily.

I assume this does not affect the 500 3D? I thought they shared these parts,

Nope. The 500 3d was produced before the 500x. No problems with the 3d.

Now, would this cause the bad vibes and tail issues we have in the group of the first run of these? I have to ask this.

Doubt that was primary reason. I have a second design, 'centered bolt' grip, and out of the box mine growled and buzzed like crazy. Only needed the infamous tail fin bolt adjustment.

Nope. The first run is actually the grips that are NOT recalled.

Please look at the pdf, it should be very clear if the grips are the recalled ones.

Yep I looked it was not them. Although I still have my vibes and so on. I may just take it apart and attempt adjustment. I don't even fly it much due to this now.

Default speechless...

Mine just failed, right before lift off on the second flight attempt. I heard a pop and immediately spooled down. Its good the heli was still on the ground and about to do a piro right after the pop.

i immediately checked the heli and one of the grips was gone but the bearings, washers, and screw was still intact on the hub. Closer inspection showed the flange on the grip was sheared off. I emailed HH and awaiting response at the moment.

Other anomalies observed after the incident were a loose drive belt and a misaligned tail assembly.

Note that the heli was thoroughly pre-flighted before each flight attempt and post-flighted after the first flight. First flight was familiarization and orientation hover only.

I came across this thread just now checking for others who may have had the same incident.
