Default How Fat's your girl ?

Forgive the title, I couldn't resist.......

I'm curious to the weight on everyones 700E's....

I have the KDE conversion (everything down to the pinion support) and ye' ole heiffer comes in @ a hefty 12.5lbs. Granted, I have the 1920 1Y Neu motor and it has plenty of power, but when you flip the switch to auto her in, THAT'S when you feel her weight.

My set up:
700LE
KDE all around
AR7100
x3-DS610s
Spartan DS760
x1-DS650
NEU 1920
CC110HV
x2-35-45c 5000mAh turnigy's
x1-3700mAh outrage
stock paddles
Align 690D main
FAD mod.1 117T
Revco 11T

I have the same motor and mine is also 12.5 lbs. In the air it feels like you are flying the simulator its so stable from the added weight but on an auto you can really screw it up if you ever drop headspeed. I would not mind trying the 3800 12s 45C thunderpower cells (should be able to handle the amps fine). Granted you will be stuck with 4-4:30 flights on the 1920 1Y motor but that really isn't all that bad and I think it will shave 15oz. off the pack so nearly one pound in battery weight. Just a thought.

Hey Mark,

The 1920H adds an extra 0.25 lbs to the setup (over the 1915H) and the best option to get below 12 lbs is to go flybarless. Flybarless removes ~6 oz from the setup, making it easy to get below 12 lbs without having to use sub 5000mAh packs (unless you don't mind giving up flight time ). I'll weigh my current setup when I get home, but I believe it's around 11.7 lbs with Turnigy 30C 5000mAh packs.

4:30-6:00 depending on how I'm flying.

I guess I'll wait until the Align flybarless units come out, then maybe go to a 4500mAh battery set up. Maybe a different frame set as well.....All I know is she has plenty of power, just floats like a rock.

The goal is to have her weigh within a pound of the Nitro to get similar flight characteristics. (rolls, flips, autos)

The 5000mAh 30C Turnigy's weigh 789g each and the 4500mAh Turnigy's weigh 745g each.

If you use two of the 4500's would the 88g weight savings (which is 0.2lbs or 1.6% of a 12lb bird) be appreciable?

BTW, what does a fully-fueled RTF 700 weigh?

Mark, why not try a smaller Rx pack? 3700 seems a little on the large side. I'm not sure which Outrage pack you have, but the 2S 3700 mAh pack on Helidirect's site is spec'ed at 194 grams. The TP 2S 910 mAh pack I'm running weighs exactly 50 grams which would be a weight savings of just over 5 oz, or over 1/4lb. I can saftely get 3, 4 minute 3D flights with the 910. Just a thought.

You could loose the receiver pack altogether with the Castle Creations BEC Pro.

Running really well on my 12s T-Rex 600 ESP with DS610 and DS8900G.

You're right, that's not much, But I'm using the 812g 35C turnigy's. Use the 745 4500mAh's and loose134g's (4.7oz) and we're getting somewhere, take off another 6oz. by going flybarless. Another 6oz or so by using a smaller flight pack.....

Going to be a work in progress, I got her on a plan, LOL

I'll be starting my 700E conversion soon and I'm trying to sort out my options for keeping the weight down. There seems to be a religious debate between the "receiver pack crowd" and the "BEC crowd".

Both seem to have pros and cons but one thing is certain--if you ditch the receiver pack, you drop a lot of weight.

I think it was MrMel that was running a Kontronik jive w/ internal BEC and a VBar. That's gotta be a super-light combo. Makes the wallet light too.

For whatever reason I wanted to go with a larger Rx pack when I built the heli. I'll be switching to the OutrageXP 2500mAh batteries. (96g with wire) available @ RREmodels.com.

This will save 64g's of weight.

I would never run a BEC and no RX pack, just my preference.

If I had to start over, I wouldn't use the KDE kit. It's made extremely well and looks great, flies great. But It's heavy. You can get the Suzi-Hans kit and the RTF weight is around 9-9.5lbs.

I think the simplest, cheapest conversion out there is from Helihobby.com $50.oo bux will get you the conversion with the motor mount. Light too.....

Has anybody run the Suzi-Hans kit with a flybar'd config? I'll go FBL eventually, but won't have the coin to do it initially. Surprisingly, the Suzi kit would be cheaper than the KDE kit and lighter to boot.
