Default Skookum 720BE - Not Responding

For some reason, my new 720BE keeps losing connection to my computer - The (not responding) message keeps appearing.

My concern is that this is an internal error and it may "Not Respond" in the air

Any one else with this issue?

I haven't had that issue, but mine gives me the "device not recognized" error about 3 out of 5 times when I connect it to my PC. I've tried numerous cables, and different USB ports.

I just keep plugging it until it finally hits and connects, and once connected it stays good.

=] 3.41 software fixes this issue, so not an air problem Scotty! it's just annoying. maybe SK can release a quick patch version to avoid waiting until the next bundle?

Default not responding

The problem is Georgi, It went into "not responding" while I was formatting the drive.
I now have a paper weight. So much for our fun fly next weekend....

On the plus side, at least it didn't crash your heli.

There is an intermittent problem with the USB link we're working on, that will not affect flight.

Scotty: If all else fails, you can reset to factory defaults and reformat the SD card by placing a bind plug (jumper) between the top row pins of IO-C and EX-LED, then connecting the USB port to a computer. Wait 2 minutes, then it should be OK on the next boot up.

I mentioned before I wish they would just remove USB mass storage altogether and start using MTP2 or similar for file transfers while interfacing that i2c bus over USB with host support for all the actual programming/settings bits. This would also provide a roadpath for bluetooth based programming. (which sadly even the cheaper FBL controllers are now getting but USB mass storage makes it basically impossible to implement this via simple USB bluetooth dongles)

The USB mass storage interface is extremely limited and archaic for programming, the software simply uploads a new config file over the bus everytime you update an option...

Also, the 12mbps link to the SD card is growing old, I thought this was improved on the BE? Aren't USB 2.0 interfaces a dime a dozen? If the interface is programmable, is the current firmware just limiting it due to release time constraints and compatibility with the current software?

Re "an intermittent problem with the USB link we're working on, that will not affect flight"

That problem is now solved, and will go out along with re-enabling PPM. If all goes well with testing tomorrow, it will be posted late Friday.

Default Not responding

Hey Art

I downloaded the 3.42 version but still seem to get the Not Responding error - not as prevalent as before but it is still often enough to be annoying -

Thoughts?

Scotty

Any chance you are using a USB 3.0 port on the computer? I had the same problem with Castle Link on a USB 3.0 port (but not my Skookums). If you have a USB 2.0 port, maybe try that.

I'm having the same "USB Device Not Recognized" issue with a new 720 BE. I started a new thread, but thought I'd bump this as well since it's a month old.

It doesn't seem intermittent here though, it just won't connect.

What firmware version are you running? Does it connect on any computer? Are you using a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port?

It sounded like some people had problems with firmware version 3.40, but most of those problems seemed to go away when firmware version 3.42 was released.

3.42 firmware and USB 3.0, which I found is the problem. I did the setup on an older desktop with USB 2.0 and it worked like a charm.

Doh! Software was 3.42, firmware was 3.40. Updated to 3.42 and it's working fine on USB 3.0 ports.

I am having a "USB device not recognised" issue with my Sk720 BE.
Things I have tried.
-Plugging it into different USB ports
-Plugging the flight pack in while connected to the PC
-Plugging the flight pack in then connecting to PC
-Putting the jumper across the top pins of IO-C and EX-LED wait 2 mins then restart (tried several times with flight pack plugged in, not plugged in, any other combinations I could think of!)
-Tried my other 720 BE and had no issues connecting
-Removed the 4.02 firmware from the PC and reloaded

This particular 720 was involved in a crash on its last flight after updating to 4.00, and all setup was done on 4.00.
After the crash it was connected again on firmware 4.00 and logs posted in HF to diagnose the crash.
I am now trying to connect using 4.02

It is on the bench with no servos or anything connected as I am setting it up to put it in a new heli. Do I need to have other inputs/outputs plugged in for it to send the right signals to the PC?

When I plug it into the PC I get a flashing red for 3-6 flashes, then it goes blank and stays blank, even with the jumper connected
When I connect the flight pack I get a solid red, which then turns green. This does not change when I plug into the PC.

I am familiar with it occasionally showing this warning when I connect to the PC, so have tried the usual fixes (different USB port, closing the software before plugging in etc)
I am using USB 2, and my other SK 720 connects OK

Does anyone have some other things I can try?

Thanks
Dave

=] Dave, the trick was (not wishing to drive you even more silly than you prob are!) have the USB in the PC port but not right in, just in position if you like, connect the bec with the jumper already in place, you have about a second to get the usb cable pushed home from the moment of the bec connection, good luck!
