It is 200A peak which Will be enough for my style of flying but can't tell if it Will workfor your friend. Maybe you could send YGE an email to make sure?

Face the FET's on the YGE down on the AL bottom plate on the Goblin. That's my plan when I swap HeliJive for YGE 160

According to specs the Jive 120HV should be able to handle 240A peak with proper cooling, This is much more than the YGE can handle (200A). However, I am seriously wondering if connecting the metal surface of the Jive against a flat metal plate could be seen as proper cooling. Heat dissipation goes much better with a heat sink and thermal paste, In "normal" cases it will probably work but if you fly extreme I would go for that combined with forced cooling (JCooler). From an electronics point of view that makes much more sense to me.... Or go to 14s or even 16s......

14s is what I would do if it were my heli. 16s I think you can kill yourself with I have heard.

Neh, I don't think 8V difference will kill you. 50V AC can be lethal, 120V when it's DC (If I remember correctly)

Only if you short something out and it explodes in your face

16S wont kill you, unless you stab yourself in the chest with the wires, finding ESCs is hard, since in many places you, legally, need an electricians license to work with more than 50-60V DC.

I talked to my supplier about the YGE 160hv and he told me the next batch he receives on Monday will have a new heat sink ( not the Extreme one). He will check next Monday if it fits my Goblin, which should arrive end of next week.... :-)

For the record, it's not the voltage that will kill. It's the amperage. You can touch 500,000 volts, as long as the amperage it very low...say 0.1 amps. 12V and 100 amps will FRY your ass!

Both Goblin and YGE did not arrive yet. Probably today or early next week. I have seen that size is similar to the extreme heatsink so I expect some issues.....

Do you think its necessary to get the YGE160 with heatsink or will the non-heatsink version be OK? My friend Sam flies extremely hard. He snaps Rave 450 flybars in flight.

Well, if you fly to the max, you need the best cooling you can get. But This 160HV is new to me so maybe you can ask Juno what the real maximum of this ESC is. It is a much bigger ESC compared to the Kontronik so even though the specs are lower, it might take abuse much better. I will try to modify the heatsink or the frame in a way it will fit....

Hey Justindewoody, for the record, what you are stating here is incorrect! :-) there is something called ohm's law which makes it impossible to let 100A flow through your body at 12 volts and I can assure you that 500.000 volts with .1A will kill you in an instant! But you are correct that in the end it is the current that kills you.....

As hard as I've tried to load the heli with my Quantum 4530 and YGE160 it comes down with the esc barely warm.

Instead of the YGE heatsink option, you can cut off the plastic heat shrink from the bottom of the esc and use a thermal pad to transfer the heat the the aluminum mount. It in itself is an amazing heat sink. The YGE is a bit to big to sit perfectly flat on the mount though, so this is why I say to use a thicker pad rather than the standard very thin thermal tape.
Paste would work, but it's messy and hard to contain.

Is this what you've done? Which pad did you use? Any chance of a photo of it mounted?

I ordered the pad when I built the Goblin and placed the YGE on the mount. It took about 2 weeks for it to arrive and by then I already had a number of flights on the machine and didn't think heat was much of an issue anymore. Now that summer is on the way I will install it the next time I get in the mood to cut tie wraps and dismount it. It's not a big job.

I got it from FrozenCPU but I'm sure there must be a European source that may be better for you. Lookup thermal pad, the thickest I could find was the 1.5mm
