Default Which motor for 12s?

Hi guys, just wanting some advice on what motor I should invest my hard earned on, it's a scorpion I want but do I get the 4025-630 or the 4035-560?? Or is there another on the way. I would like a good headspeed to do 3d, my 600 is running around 2150- 2200 and like it, but don't like 6s! I have read all the pages on 12s on a budget and the 4025 630 kv seems like the one to go for but want to make sure. I will be using the cc85 hv esc and am wanting to purchase these over the holidays, so any advise is appreciated, thanks tony.

I have installed 4025-630 along with 13T pinion on my 600ESP and I'm getting 2000rpm @90% and 2200rpm @100% throttle.
No way I can bog it. I've heard somewhere, however, that you get even more power from the 4035 but you'll need more juice from your packs.

Thanks hmurayam, what do you set your timer for? Am sure the 630 would be plenty powerfull enough for me, but you know what it's like, always looking for the latest and best!! Well unless some other guys chime in it looks as though it's the 630kv scorpion. Thanks tony.

I am getting a 4025 550kV custom wound from Scorpion, they will be coming out standard soon, the advantage of the lower kV is that the motor pinion can be bigger which helps to avoid stripping and also the lower kV motors are said to be "torqueir" , a new word for something with a lot of torque ! I have also read that the lower kV motors are more suited to being governed because of this said torque, I will post on this when my stuff arrives and let you guys know.

Been using Neu 1915, 1917, 1920 and the new KDE/Neu 1917, all perform quite well

Thanks Brett, your reply is interesting I might just wait until that lower kv comes out as I think I would be using the governer. Tony.

I tached mine just today! 4025-630 running 13T pinion, on Turnigy 3000mAh 35C packs, got 2300RPM at the start of flight and 6min later was still at 2050RPM. That's perfect for me! This is on a 100% flat curve.

Scored a little over 2100 on a 90% flat curve.

After 6min flights, still have plenty of juice to land and be under 80% rule.

Also just realised the 4035 630 kv has a 6 mm shaft, so would this be any better than the 4025 630 which only has a 5 mm one? Still don't know which one to get! Help.

Tony, I'm thrilled with my current setup. I'm just doing some mild 3D as my skills progress, but do enjoy flying aggressively, fast, and doing lots of high-collective stuff, and so far, so good. The setup is powerful enough for anything I've thrown its way.

As far as the 5mm vs. 6mm shaft, I thought someone else said its hard to find pinions for that 6mm shaft. The 5mm shaft with the Mikado 3012 or 3013 pinions works flawlessly. Just make sure you have a really good mesh with the gear and you'll never strip it. Too bad you're not in FL, or I'd let you see how good this 600 flies!

I think the 4035 630 is supposedly a 3d monster motor, but you'll drain your packs very quickly and not have good flight times. I think I read in the 12s thread that there was an LHS (grandrc I think) that had one of these setups for 3D and they were getting 3 min flights. That's no my cup of tea! I want to fly for a good 6min per pack, since I only have 3 of them!

caralmar, I can not find any 6mm pinions. I put a 6mm shaft in my 4025-630 and now no shafts. May have to put the 5mm back in.

Thanks caralmar! Yea I don't like the idea of 3 minute flights so it's going to be the 4025. Thanks very much. Tony.

Thanks for reading..

The 4025-630kv has more than enough power for swinging 600 blades, with respectable flights time, while few get approximately 3mins on 4035 series motors.

I set my timer to 7min and putting back 1900mah back to my turnigy 3000mah 30C sport flying @ 90% idle.
At 100% flat I'm landing after 6 minutes just not to force my batteries.

I bought my 630 with 5mm shaft just because it is hard to find pinions. I'm using align ones with little mod on top of the hole. I had to open the hole to 5mm on the upper side of the pinion. It's a easy task anyway.

regards,

i just test flew my 12s conversion for the first time today. Im working out some bugs with the esc settings and the mikado parameters. I went off the charts with a totally different setup. I get no sign of bog and i pushed it to the limit without stripping any gears. I only flew for 5:30 minutes and it seem I can squeeze some more out of the packs.

here are some graphs that i pulled from the data log. these represent the logs when I was doing tic tocs.

As far as 6mm pinions, the only ones I could find are

http://www.readyheli.com/RevCo_Hard_.../ho-0700h6.htm

Unfortunately, the 12/13T units are out of stock.
