Tail heavy heli
After adding an AR800, TM1000, sat RX, and a Copilot system my bird is a little tail heavy. I tried moving my battery more forward, but I won't be able to get the canopy on if I move it any lower and the heli is still tail heavy. I can not move the components any closer to the main shaft as there just isn't room for it there. What would you recommend to fix the COG?

Hate to say it, but once you've tried moving stuff round, and can't get it right, the only thing left to do is ballast it. I have a AA cell taped to the front left side of my frame. Heavy tail servo. I think some guys tape stuff to their lipos too.

I use the stick on lead weights when needed to get cg right
This is a 6 oz set , each of the 24 segments is about 7 grams http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...t-6-oz-HAN3626 One other thing i did is i went with the TM1100 instead of the TM1000 on my 450 its 1/3 the weight and less than 1/2 as long TM1100 Weight: 5.4g Dimensions (WxLxH): 25.8x20x10.8mm TM1000 Weight: 15.8g Dimensions (WxLxH): 30.0x43.0x13.0mm

+1 on the lead weights, I have 10, 7-gram lead weights on the nose of the frame. You do the math

Those weights look like they'll do the trick

I placed tungsten plates (denser than lead I believe) for wood cars onto the frame on the front of my heli. Works like a charm.
Alternatively If you use different types of batteries that have different weights, you can weight the batteries. Last edited by grovey; 04-16-2012 at 11:33 AM.. |

The lead weights work for sure, I have a couple. You might be able to use fewer of them (cut down on the total weight added) by sticking them into the nose of the canopy.
Are you sure you can't move the ESC forward? It is one of the heavier components, and there should be plenty of room. I was able to fix most my COG problems just by doing that. |
