quaser hv bec? reliable or not?

Im looking into getting this bec and will only be using it on 6s.
ive heard lots of people say its awesome but looking on here a few people have had some problems.

This is leaving me confused and not knowing what to do.

My heli atm is setup with 6v bec on my kontronik jive but ideally i want to run 8.4v

Im just so worried about anything going wrong with it because it would litrally wipe me out the hobby

I can totaly recommend it.

But, as always. Use a scropion backup guard. Then you are perfectly secured :-)

I have three, they have always been totally reliable in actual flight.
The only problem I had with one showed itself when i powered up the heli. The BEC simply failed to power up and bench testing confirmed that it was 'toast'. This seems to be a far from unknown problem but at least it's 'safe' because the failure only ever seems to occur during power up, not in use.

The simplest, cheapest and most reliable option for powering an HV system is simply to use a 2s LiPo. A standard dirt cheap 2s 2200mAH LiPo such as a Hobbyking Zippy or Turnigy is fine. I avoid the purpose designed Rx packs because they have poor discharge current rating and so suffer high voltage sag under load.

Ive heard of people doing the 2s lipo aswell.

Im just really worried about both tbh. Its just scary to thing that i could spend £75 on something to make the heli better but that could also take the thing out.

As the old saying goes if its not broken dont fix it.

Just trying to get my head around it to see if its worth the cost for the performance and the risk of failure.
It really does seem like a mini lottery.

Also what I was thinking and not to go off topic was to treat myself to a more powerful motor. I cant really afford the bec and the motor so was wondering if i just got the motor first and then tested the heli then it might even have more pop from that.

A 2s Lipo will be more reliable than the BEC in your Jive, so you would be increasing reliability by going with that option. And it costs less than £10 to fit.

As long as you do a good job with the wiring and soldering and you don't forget to charge it then a 2s LiPo is close to 100% reliable.
Personally I don't use any backup when using 2s LiPo power. There are many things on a heli that are less reliable and for which there are and can be no backups, my flying skills being the most notable!

Haha that made me laugh. The 2s setup will be 7.4v?

For some reason i trust the jive more than after market becs. I had some trouble with external becs before and thats really scarred my confidence.

The 2s setup does sound interesting though. I know that the pack has to be secure too.

A fully charged 2s LiPo is 8.4V as it comes off the charger and you will probably be re-charging when it gets down to about 7.6V.

HV servos are specifically designed to operate off a 2s unregulated LiPo.

What size mah would be good for a goblin 500? Atm ive only got 3 batteries for it so im thinking the smaller the better for weight reasons but im not sure how long it would last
