This one really works out great for 3D! Can see everything that is going on really far away and it's lighter weight so better for stock 3D. Only problem is not as sturdy!
Gets dinged up easy. Need to make a couple!
Really like how it looks in the air.

Just joined the MCPX craze with my V2 I picked up on Friday. Loving the flights in the back yard!! Here is my first attempt at a paper canopy. Thanks for everyone that has posted the different designs.

Found some materials that help with building paper canopies.

Instead of super glue I'm using glue sticks for the tabs.

Also these two types of tapes are very helpful. Scotch double sided good for tabs and the clear scotch gloss finish tape is very sturdy and transperent for repairs.

I found these items to make my paper canopies much sturdier than using super glue to glue them together on the tabs.

Went out flying today with a tape repaired canopy and had a few crashes with no damage to the canopy.

You can (just barely) see the tape down near the bottom of the canopy where it had ripped before from being smashed back into the skids. Today it didn't flinch with the new tapes.

Really good stuff. I like the transparent and the double sided both.

I just came up with an easy way to fully customize your canopies!

1. Go watch this video so you know what i'm talking about: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVuyL2-j020&context=C3951341ADOEgsToPDskLS9MwEAzxtoZM6uMw fRSc4[/ame]

2. Go to heliskin.com (a french site, you'll be able to find the links)

3. Download and print off any design, it doesn't matter about the design, we just want the folding scheme they have.

4. Print off a cool texture or pattern you want to be on the heli (I've already done fire and a cool black and white circuit board pattern)

5. Glue the back of the fold scheme on the paper! This part is important so you can get all the edges covered well. Then slap your pattern on, and smooth out the glue. (I used a ruler on the folding side to nothing smeared onto my pattern.

6. Then procede to cute out the pattern, I used a straight edge and a razor for all the cutting except the rounded edges which I used scissors for.

7. Fold it all up, Glue her together and take your time making sure everything glues together and looks neat.

I'll try to post some pics of mine that i've done, they look pretty sweet!

Newbie question: When printing from pepakura designer, a message pops up: "The size of paper specified by Pepakura Designer is not the same as Printer setting. Adjust scale?". My printer is set to 8.5x11" paper. Should I adjust the scale or not?

Thanks for any guidance!

EDIT: Nevermind, I figured it out. Default was set to A4, but we use letter over here in the USA .

Another few questions:

1. Do you folks make use of the tabs when cutting out canopies and use glue sticks, or just ignore them and use tape?

2. Do you folks bother folding all segments through the canopies? So far it looks like the answer is "no".

3. Can anything be done to reinforce the nose area?

4. I made one so far and it came out pretty well, but had a lot of difficulty in getting the nose parts to align. I left the nose for last. Should I start at the nose/apex of the canopy?

1) I use the tabs and wood glue, I think its better then the glue stick and looks much nicer then my tape versions.
2) I have done both, I found that if I don't make any folds they come out really nice but are a bit tougher going together.
3 and 4) if you use peprika designer you can readjust the tabs and cuts. I have done 2 where I made it so every thing spread out from the nose so the nose did not have to come together. ( thats really hard to describe) but it looks really good. As for making it stronger. If I make a good canopy, and the colors and all that is great. I coat the thing in epoxy resin. They stiffen up quite a bit and feel much more like a plastic canopy, and last a good deal longer. If you go that route put some grommets in or it may tare near the canopy mounts.

After you get the nose area sealed well (I use regular invisible tape for everything instead of glue) I put a few drops of CA threw the back into the nose area and let it dry upsidedown so the CA sort of puddles in the nose. The nose section is now really stiff and can withstand some abuse .
