Default Canopy Modeling in Rhino3D

Trying to self-teach control point and surface editing in Rhino3D so I can model some heli canopies. This is a lot tougher than I thought ! I've been using Rhino3D for 20 years now, but this is my first go around with free-form modeling.

Here is my first attempt at a Blade Nano CPS canopy. Needs a lot of work, and I made mistakes, but I'm learning a lot.

Just wondering if anyone has tips or pointers they're willing to share ?

Baby steps ...

Thanks! It turned out much better than I thought it would.

It still needs work though I'm going to take some photos (top, side, front, etc.) and use them to trace out key curves and have a go at it again.

Pretty impressive, especially for self teaching and a first go-around.

I don't remember too much about Rhino. I learned 3D modelling on it about 14 years ago, but haven't used it since.

What is your ultimate goal for the 3D models?

Thanks Razor!

I love Rhino - the beta version 6 is out now. I own V5 (and v4 and V3 and V2), and use it at work for all kinds of electronics enclosure, PCB, and component designs. I modeled an mCX about 10 years ago, but could not get the canopy figured out. All of the mechanical parts were rather easy.

I also own 3DStudioMax (v7) but never really got into the free-form or natural shapes, till now, for some reason. Maybe it's an age related urge

I want to model up some of my current helis, with canopies. Not sure where this is going, exactly, but it's something I'm interested in. 3D printing is cool, but that's not in my sights - I don't think it really applies to canopies, yet (?)
