Default Throttle Return spring.

I'm a newbie, & I've watched a few videos of crashes & the " Funky Chicken " dance. What's the main cause of the throttle jamming open? I've noticed no-one seems to use a throttle return spring, which is standard practice with nitro cars. It wouldn't solve the problem if the throttle physically jammed, but if it was just the battery or receiver getting disconnected, it may help. Anyone got any views?

Funny chicken happens mostly when in IDLE UP 65%>100% power and you crash. Don't get to cut or throttle hold switch fast enough or you hit the deck hard enough power disconnects. Its part of the fun, your lucky if you can get it on camera! Get to enjoy the little details after LOL

btw i did get to kill engine !!

Someone on here has made and is selling a throttle return spring. Try a search to find it.

The spring is only going to help in one type of crash: where the throttle servo link pops off. If the electronics lose power, there's really nothing to do but watch in agony as the heli tears itself apart, at least until the blades whittle down enough that the heli is just lying there with the engine still revved up, when you can pinch off the fuel line or exhaust tube (depending on what side the heli is lying on). You can't use a spring strong enough to help in that sort of crash because your throttle servo would likely die a quick death from all the extra stress.

Thanks for your input guys, the return spring was just a thought. I'm heading for my first flights soon, & hope I don't have to worry about it all too early on!

There are steps you can and should take to reduce the likely hood of seeing the funky chicken. Mount your battery so it can't rip off no matter how hard you pull, crashes are violent! 2nd,tape or safety your battery to switch connector and use a heavy connector like deans. My last crash the cheap jst align connector popped off costing me a clutch. Also, fail to closed switches( like the arizona) are the very best. No chance of bumping the switch in a crash, I really worry about that with the align 2 in 1.
