I know the V2 spindle is not interchangeable with the xl spindle. Not sure about the SE (non-V2).
The V2 spindle is larger and is shouldered, or in other words, steps down to a smaller diameter where it enters the blade grips. BD |

The feathering shaft/spindle is the same length on the 450SE and the 450SEV2. The difference is the shaft diameter. The SE's shaft is 3mm and the SEV2's is 4mm.
It's possible if you bought that heli used, it's got an aftermarket head or parts on it. Both my SEs and my V2 have Align embossed on the head block.

Best is subjective. The V2 spindle is larger and stronger... In theory, it'll survive crashes better than the thinner SE shaft. Now, having said that, there have been reports of the the V2 actually bending the head block in crashes because the feathering shaft is so strong. I haven't seen it with my V2, but then again I've only crashed that one twice and both times it went in tail first with hold on.
I HAVE crashed one of my SEs a bunch of times including one where I had to cut the dampers and the remains of the feathering shaft to get it out and had no head block damage at all. IMO, I'd rather twist up a $3.00 feathering shaft than a $25 head block.

What is the dimension you need for the feathering shaft? How long, what diameter and is it stepped at the ends?

All non-SE V2s use the same spindle/feathering shaft. The SE V2 uses a different one. The V2 version has step down near each end. The non=V2 one is constant diameter from end to end.
And as Skiddz says, if the head is not Algin, it may use a different shaft. And for new people, I recommend the V1 head setup for duability. The V2 spindles still bend, but sometimes take out the head block. The larger spindle was put in, not for crash esistance, but strength when running headspeeds up the 3400+ RPM range.
