hello there- I'm new to this thread and am glad you guys are here! I'm looking at picking up the new V2 4G3 for an indoor CCPM bird. I have been flying a CX2 during the winter and T-rex 450 during the summer.and want to get something that will fill the difference.
What parts break most often on the 4G3, I assume similiar parts to the Trex but what about the battery tray and other plastic parts? I'll be in this form often, where would you guys suggest buying from and what extras/upgrades? THanks in advance, Todd |

I broke the little push rods on my first day....also killed a motor, stripped the main gear, bent some feathering shafts and some blades

Yes a lot of those blades - the stock ones snag if they hit a feather!!! Have ordered some wooden ones off ebay and will see if there is an improvement. I ordered spare motors, boom, rotor head components, tail rotor assembly, canopy. So far, I have rebuilt the head and got through lots of blades, as mine flew like a mad brick out of the box. Then the batt kept vibrating out causing more crashes - fixed with an elastic band [fiddly but works]
has taken some effort, but I am getting close to a decent setup. Mike

The mixing arms break easily, as well as the stock blades.
I use wooden blades from here: http://www.chinesejade.com/walkera.htm Far more durable than the stock blades and they make the heli a lot more stable as well. A feathering shaft, a tail boom (shortened by 2mm), a frame (fixed) and a canopy (taped) are the only other things I have broken/bent. So it's fair to say this heli can be patched up fairly easily! One thing I would say though, I was expecting an indoor heli like the FP 4#3's, but with the 4G3 you would need a very big indoor space. I only fly mine outdoors now (over grass), as you can let it stretch it's legs in a relatively small outdoor space, and IMO that's what it's best at, and a lot of fun too. Also, although tough for a CP heli, it's nowhere near as robust as it's FP counterparts, so my 4#3A and 4#3B remain my favourite indoor helis, I can do a lot more with them in my living room than I can with the 4G3. A V2 version has just been released, which has a new frame and 4#3A/B servos, the 4G3V1 has the inferior older 4#3 servos. The differences are detailed here: http://www.chinesejade.com/walkera24G4G3_Heli.htm

seems that the blades on the 4G3 break if you just look at them funny... I've heard great things about Airy's products (but don't have any actual experience). I can't find their "corporate" site, but helipal.com sells them...

wow guys- thanks for the great responses! do you really need to get a spare motor? I have planned on going to the jade wood blades immediately because of all the reports
Would you suggest the FP model over the 4G3 for indoor flying? What type of headspeeds are we talking by the way? Has anyone actually purchased and recieved the new V2 yet? Thanks again! |

Anyone tried the head upgrade from Airy-
http://www.helipal.com/airy-2nd-gene...t-for-4g3.html Looks more substantial than the Chinese Jade ones, or is it the same? Mike

Certainly looks a lot better than the chinese jade ones which have 'pressure' fitted ball joints that can apparently come apart in flight. Also the chinese jade version doesn't include the central part. Personally I'm going to wait until the official Walkera version is released, even then I may not bother, I'll see what others think of it first

A metal head is usually a "must" upgrade on any heli..............

I think metal heads are a matter of personal taste, the only heli I have with a metal head is my 4#3B, and I prefer the plastic head on the 4#3A.
Saying that. I'll certainly take a look at the Walkera metal head for the 4G3 when it appears, may well be worth getting as the plastic head is a bit flimsy

I might order one of those "cheap" ones on Ebay and see what the quality is like.

I'd just watch out for the heads that have 'pressure fitted' ball joints.
Hope you find something you like

To be honest, the Airy ones look the best quality, but for £15, the chinese one might work.
TBN.......... Mike

I think they are both very good suppliers, have used both, and haven't read a bad word about either, though chinese jade always works out much cheaper when you live outside U.S.A.
Apparently Terence from chinesejade goes to the walkera factory himself and picks his stock up, which must save a lot. Living in the U.K., buying from the U.S.A. can be much more expensive, but then I am paying for the stuff to get shipped from China to the U.S.A., U.S. import taxes etc, then paying for it to get shipped over to here!

Dusty- makes tons of sense! One question however, ChineseJade seems to be selling an older model radio and bird than WOW hobbies. WOW also seems to test and dial in the bird before you get it, as well as sends other helpful set-up/supplemental guides and directions to clarify the poor walkera factory translations.......any thoughts?
