I am building a 700e and would like to know will this gyro work with the 8900g servo?

I have an 8900G in use with this gyro on my Atom.

It works very well, so far (three flights since removing the Gy401)-I am still in the tuning stages.

Mike,
You can use it in a non 2.4 set up! I have a friend flying it on a Raptor 90 using JR radio on 72 megahertz.

Isnt there somebody that lives in Maine that can give Mike a hand?

Mike,
Send me your helicopter. I will remiburse you for your shipping expense.
I will correct what ever is wrong, video the flight, and send it back to you at my expense. PM me for my shipping address.

Mike beware of Ray!!!!!!!!!!I think he is just looking for another Heli to fly....................

Mike Ray is a stand up guy and your stuff would be safe with him. He can certainly help get it sorted.

I plan to use Nigel Brown's approach for the GY611 on the GY520. I have the programming interface. I am putting this into a 450 Super Pro. Any words of wisdom or has anyone down a Nigel Brown like thing yet?

  1. I looked at the settings quickly. Any specific nuggets of information would be great.
  2. Also are we getting best results hovering in rate mode and adjusting for it to hover then switching over to HH mode?

Mike,

I am very interested in your views on this gyro.

I just put one in a Trex 450 SE. I did set it up in rate mode, as someone posted a like to Bobby Watts website and he (Watts) said it should be set up that way.

I set up the Atom in HH mode and the tail was much better than with the GY401. I am going to set it up again in Rate mode, to see if it makes any difference.

I put one in the Trex 600E, but just finished the installation a few minutes ago. I have other work to do on that machine, so I do not think I will be able to test it for a couple of days.

Do you have the programmers in stock?

Thank you sir.

Mike, I'm sorry but you are simply not correct with this statement. You have had more than one person at Hobbico in pretty much constant contact with you. You have been given a servo at basically cost in a attempt to fix the problems you seem to be having.

I've personally asked you at least three times how the machine responds in the rate mode, you have yet to answer that question. We have asked you to send the gyro in to service to be check out, and you seem to refuse to do that.

I'm sincerly sorry you are having a difficult time with the GY520. However, of the literally thousands we have on the market you seem to be the only one having these troubles. Frankly I'm at a loss as to what else we can offer you. If you send that gyro in, as requested, we will check it out and assure it is working properly.

Now you have one of our most respected team members offering to examine your machine at HIS expense. I frankly have mixed emotions about that offer. I know Ray will fix what is wrong and you'll get a perfect machine back. However, I also do not care for the idea that he is out of pocket on this.

Anyway, Mike you have two options, both of which will pretty well assure you'll have a working machine and gyro. If I was you I'd get the machine boxed up and sent to Ray (at your expense, not his) and provide him with return shipping as well. If that does not work for you, for some reason, get the gyro sent to Futaba Service so we can get you flying.

Default amazing customer service

hey, how's this for an idea? I can box myself up and ship myself to Ray and have him teach me all the secrets to becoming a Pro. Helismith, you said it best, that is great customer service...

Have a nice day, to all.

Steve, Clint,

Do you recommend setting it up in Rate mode first?

Just curious as there is some discussion on this issue.

Thank you both in advance.

Ah Clem,
Futaba does recommend that the GY520 be set up in the rate mode first.

Another question:

Once the helicopter is trimmed in rate mode for hands off with no drift, is there any reason to toggle between rate and HH modes three times?

If so, what does this do?

I think I saw this in the instructions somewhere.

Thank you again.

It is supposed to make the gyro reinitialize I believe.

Thank you again.
Toggling three times teachs the gyro what neutral is. So, if you have been flying in the rate mode and made a trim change, you would have to let the gyro know where neutral is again by toggling the switch. Once you've done this you don't have to do it again unless you make another trim change in the rate mode. Of course the trim is not used in the AVCS mode.

Just to clarify, if I set up in rate mode (i.e. trim the helicopter mechanically so that it hovers with no drift in rate mode), then switch to HH and only fly in HH, I do not need to toggle between Rate and HH?
