Default Best motor.

What in your honest opinion would be the best motor for a 450 sized heli with 350mm blades?

I fly with a scorpion now but am concerned with the motors bearing quality.
Neu motors are supposed to be extremely efficient and come with better bearings.

Xera motors is a new company I've never hear of before until recently. I don't know much about them besides the fact that they're expensive.

Don't worry about bearing quality on your scorp.

Just make sure you oil them every few flights, and if needed replace them....

I know of two local guys that have gone from NUE to Scorpion motors because the Nue bearings kept going out.

X-era motors are expensive because they are for 500-700mm size helis. They don't make small motors at this time.

I went from Scorpion to Neu and back to Scorpion and never looked back. If you fly in a dusty environment it doesn't make a difference what motor you have your going to have bearing issues. Try changing bearings in a Nue or Align motor it can be done but its a pain. You can change set of bearing in a Scorpion motor in 10 minutes or less.

You're right gravydrive, my bad. What's the best an easiest way to change the bearing, E.G., am I going to need a press or a solvent to get the old one out?

I"m surprised this hasn't gotten crazy yet!

It all depends on what you want, how you fly now and how you plan to fly later on when you improve, etc, etc, etc,...............

Are Scorpion motors good? Yes they are.

IMO Scorpion offers the best bang for your buck, as much power as anyone and lighter than some other higher dollar motors.

My buddy's 450 has a NEU motor and mine has a Scorpion motor, I'm not sure who has more power or what but he told me his is 22 grams(aprox) heavier than mine. If there's a power difference it's hard to tell.

I have at least 150 flights on my -8 Scorp motor and it's just as strong as ever and on original bearings, never really worried about the bearings. Hmmmm?......

I also had a NEU and changed to Scorpion -8, the -8 is brutal on 4s.
NEU motors are a work of art, but I don't see any reason to buy the NEU when the -8 cost 1/2 and gives more power and is easy to keep in shape.
Flighttime is 30s difference on 4s, but the power in -8, OMG

I have seen alot of videos of guys flying in dirt lots and fields which will cause premature bearing failure on any motor. Since bearings/shafts are really the motors only consumable item, Scorpion makes their motors are very easy to work on compared to other brands.
I switched from Nue to Scorpion for three reasons 1. More power 2. Ease of maintenance and parts availability. 3 $$$ bang for the Buck.
I don't believe bearings are an issue with the Scorpion motors any more. I have well over 150 flights on my -6 motors with no failures.
Nue motors are very good motors and they are very efficient. It all boils down to personal preferance.

I love my NEU which goes hand in hand with my Jazz. No bogging at all on 4s, just keeps a constant head speed during loops, rolls, flips (all I can do at present) and flies beautifully during ff flight. I am curious about the scorpoin -8 but see no reason to change for a while at least. The NEU may be heavier but I don't notice any difference from changing from the Align XL, other than it's a lot quieter, and the Batts come down very cool after 7mins of flight on 10t pinion. Expensive, but worth it!

True, never really saw it's true potential until I changed the motor, something to do with low poles. Which has nothing at all to do with the limbo, although you might have to bend over backwards to buy one.

?????
Scorpion -8 on 4S has alot not just a little but allot more power than the 1107 2Y on 4S. Motor, Jazz ESC and Packs run super cool at 3050 RPM with 5.5 minutes of pure power. No hot components on this setup.

Hmm, it's really the efficiency of the Neu motors that intrigues me, it still seems that Scorpion is the best bang for the buck though.
What are some tips and tricks to changing the Scorpion bearing easily?

I think you save more $$ with neu because they are much easie on packs. They never get hot. Always just warm. That I am sure saves money in the long run

Remove the C clip slide the case off taps the exposed bearings out install new bearings reverse the above process. 10 Minutes.

What are the temps of your packs?
My Outrage Packs with the Scorpion Motor come down at 95-105 degrees which I consider pretty cool when the ambient temp is 78 degrees.
I don't think the Nue motor flys any cooler, but I will fly my retired 450 v2 on 3S with the 1107 2Y this weekend and Temp the motor ESC and packs and post the results.

LOL I'm talking 4S and the 1107 is not even close to the -8 on 4S. Heck I was getting bog at 3000 rpm on a T10 Setup. Show me the FDR's!!! here is mine for both the Nue and the -8 http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=103559&page=2
The proof is in the puddin. Its efficient but its not a the power house the -8 is.
