Exclamation Stoock Gyro died yesterday

Still working on my hovering in the parking garage yesterday, I was about 4 mins into my first battery. I am really starting to feel like I'm getting the hang of tail in and I'm working towards side in hovering. Suddenly, the heli piros out of control. Luckily, I managed to land her safely...having the training gear helped me there! Checking the heli over, I notice that the tail servo is not moving and the gyro light is not on. I unplug the gyro and put the servo plug into the receiver. Servo checks out ok. Try the gyro again, I get no response. So, I guess the gyro really did die on me. I'm thinking of replacing it with the G401B. I know there are a few others out there that use this bargain gyro and seem to like it. Does anyone know if the Spektrum DSP75 digital tail servo is compatible with it? Also, I plan to return the stock gyro...hopefully Horizon will send me a replacement too.

Sorry to hear that about your gyro. The 401 is a good choice IMO.

Unfortunatly, you'll find yourself replacing a lot of stuff on the B400. I think the only electronic parts left on mine is the receiver and battery. I chose to put all the alumium parts on as well, but that was by choice, not need.

Replacements are not a bad thing however. Every replacement improves the B400. It's not a bad heli at all. Very good starter system. It would be nice if they used better parts, but if they did, you wouldn't be able to get a full RTF for $500 us.

At first I didn't think the 401b was that much better than the 110, but I recently purchased another heli and used the 110 in that and flew the two one after the other and couldn't believe the difference! A good CHEAP upgrade IMO. Hope it helps and good luck.

Before you give up on the gyro rebind. You can always throw it out if that doesn't fix it?

The G401B is ordered and hopefully on its way now. I saw a nice looking canopy on CNC's site so I ended up buying that too!! I thought it was appropriate for me. I just need to get the TREX500 mounting posts from my LHS to make it fit.

Don't forget Horizon hobby will replace your failed gyro for free. Can't hurt to have a back-up gyro even if it is poor quality.

The Gyro and canopy arrived today. Can't wait to get the gyro installed and see how it handles compared to the stock unit.

Canopy will have to wait a while before I can install it. Check out the attached picture.

Hopefully, CNCHelicopter will replace it free of charge.

man theres nothing wrong with that canopy, just pop out the dent and fly. LOL

well atleast you can use the canopy dureing practice flights, that way if you crash you wont tear up a good canopy

so thats the g401b gyro? you might look over on rcgroups, they have a hole thread on this gyro

I thought of that. Popped the dent out...Canopy is split top and bottom. If I was going to use it for practice, I'd have to do some repair work on it or it would likely split in two and fly off while hovering. Any recommendations for repairing fiberglass? I'm assuming I just need some fiberglass cloth and epoxy maybe from a car parts store?

thats probaly the best way to fix it.

or if you have something like that mesh you get in the sheetrock repair kits and some super glue?
dont know if that`ll work but its a thought.
maybe some thin cloth and super glue?
the fiber glass repair kit from a parts house like you said might be the strongest repair

Yup, get some automotive Shoe Goo, sometimes called E6000 or similar. It is 1/2 way between silicone and epoxy.

I have repaired MANY canopies, best used on tears. Best thing is it stays flexible while holding like crazy..just coat a thin layer inside.

For splits (cheapest canopy design ever...epoxy on top of paint) just mix up some 5 min epoxy and give that a shot.. to reinforce, use a coat of goo for added strength.

Good luck!

PS Based on really bad (intensional?) design of stock canopy, I'm giong to invest 15$ or so for the same canopy you bought...They seem to withstand even hard hits on pavement from the reviews I have read.
