Default More cells, or less flybar?

I'm looking for more power out of my Trex600, I understand I could easily go up to 8S/10S from the stock setup with a battery and motor upgrade, but the question is.. Could I just go flybarless and get the same power as I would from a motor and battery upgrade?

The V-bar looks awesome and that is the route I would choose along with the Kasama head, or I could go for a Scorpion motor and larger batteries.

I just cant decide which route would offer the best performance and the lowest cost. I already have a few 6S batteries and would like to continue using them. Also I have the basic Spektrum "sport" servo's on the cyclic, would they need upgrading for a flybarless setup or are they under less stress without the flybar?

I would like your opinions please fellow freaks

Hi,

You sure need to upgrade your servo's. I dont think the spektrum servio's will be fast enough, and they will wear out quick.
I'm flying my v-bar t-rex 600 on 6s. When I switched to flybarless I really did notice a "power increase" But when my packs wear out in the near future, I will switch to 8s anyway. So what to do first for you? well doesnt really matter. flyberless or 8s setup would roughly cost the same I think.

Your choice ;-)
personally I would go for the v-bar first

cheers,
Maurice

Its personal preference, I just went VBar as I know will be going 10/12S as soon as my 6S packs start to fail.

OK, i might upgrade the motor to start with, i dont like the align ones..
I was thinking of going 8S with the Scorpion HK4025-890KV. I understand it has a 5mm shaft, my current align 650L motor has a 6mm shaft, would a 12 tooth 5mm pinion give me a good headspeed, of around 2100? and does anyone know where i can find such a pinion in the UK, i cant find any anywhere unless its from the US.

Well, after using a headspeed calculator, it seems i actually need a 16tooth 5mm pinion..

I think you'll see a bigger power difference with the motor and battery over the Vbar alone on 6S. That 6S battery still has to lug around 7.5lbs with or without the vbar.

i had a 4025-890 in my rex ,using 8s 3750 eon for power , used a 6mm 15T pinion , what ya need is a sleeve from the back end of the rappy 50 , the tail pitch slider one , its 5mm internal and 6mm external , with a little work it fits a treat , my headspeed was plenty high enough and she went like a rocket

I've found some logo 600 pinions in the UK, i guess they should do - 5mm.

If we're talking about the Spectrum DS821 digital servos that come with a DX7, I would tend to disagree about this statement.

I have them on the cyclic in my 600CF and have Align DS610s in my ESP. My CF is two years old and I've flown the crap out of it and the cheap Spectrum DS821 servos are still working great. Unless you are into mad 3D, they are plenty fast if ran on 6 volts. They are also holding up just great after many hundreds of flights.

I would spend the money on a better gyro and tail servo. You will gain much more spending your money on a GY611 or a GY520 over a GY401 than you will by replacing DS821s with faster cyclic servos in my opinion.

I've got a 401/9254 in my CF and a 520/BLS251 in my ESP, so I know this from experience. Spend the money on the tail!

When I have more to spend on my 600CF I'll be replacing the GY401 first, not the DS821 cyclic servos.

One thing I don't know is if going flybarless puts more load on the cyclic servos. If it does, the cyclic servos may be more of an issue.

Bill
