Default E version hickups

A buddy of mine did the E conversion and stripped 2 main gears today. He has the scorpion 550 with the 11 cell setup. Anyway, what do you think is the issue? pinion, Kv, throttle curve? Someone else has to know. We worked out the head spead, which was my guess. Thanks in advance.

I believe the problem is too much power going through a drive train that is not built for it. What you need is the 1.0 tooth count main gear. The problem then is your head speed will be way to high. I am guessing the scorpion 550 means the Kv is 550, in which case there is no pinion with a small enough tooth count to bring the head speed down. Your choices are either a motor with a lot lower Kv rating / a change in flying style/ lower your throttle setting

What pinion do he use?

regardless, set it up with ZERO backlash on the gearmesh, you need to push the pinion tight to the maingear to make it hold.

I agree with model match..... I told him he is putting to much torque to an airframe meant for nitro............thanks

Well im running 12S thru mine and the gears have been holding up ok, tho last time out i took one tooth off the main gear.

Most important is to make sure you motor mount is exactly square so the pinion is perfectly matched to the main gear, if its leaning off to one side it will eat gears in no time.

I do run my mesh pretty tight and i am running a 14 Tooth Align main gear with the motor shaft cut down to suit.

With Flybarless i am running 2230 on the head speed at it seems to cope ok, might try govern it soon buy hey its good fun going flat out

Also using this set up with 500 rpm/V motors (even more torque than 560). I always set it up with a very tiny amount of backlash in the mesh to protect the motor bearings. No failures and no wear so far (only about 25 flights). More details here:
