Default Rhino Pinion 2.3mm shaft set screw size

What size hex wrench is needed for this set screw?

I just got a couple of Rhino pinions from HeliDirect, and I thought the hex driver I had was the right size but it wasn't...ruined one of the set screws. I'm pissed. So, I need to find out exactly what size I need so I can order the correct size. Glad I have another pinion. Don't really want to buy a whole set of metric hex drivers right now.

Should ditch the whole lot and get a motor with a 3.17mm shaft...and new pinions. This is crazy.

I have several pinions from several sources (although none are Rhino), both 2.3 and 3.17 shaft size, and all use M3 thread set screws, which use a 1.5mm hex driver.

M3 set screws are pretty common on 450-size helis (pinions, shaft collars, tail blade hub, etc), and I have found that it's really easy to round out the hex drive. Usually OK the first, maybe second time you tighten them, but then they strip. So I bought a bag of 20 of them a while back, and now I rarely bother reusing them at all. I figured it was better to spend a few pennies on a grub screw than end up with a pinion jammed on a shaft, or not being able to change a main shaft because I couldn't get the collar off

I have a ton of allen wrenches, just not THAT size. I'm pretty sure it's a 1.3mm since that is the next standard size down from a 1.5mm that is too big. Also, a member of another forum was talking about the 'weird sized 2.3mm Rhino pinion set screw.'

I used some red loctite and it works great and the heli flies great (except for my weak battery.) Obviously, when I upgrade to another motor with a 3.17mm shaft (along with a new Rhino pinion) I'll set it up correctly.

1.5mm and 1.6mm - Trust me on the 1.6, some of them are made a hair bigger.

If you can't get them out, give them a squirt of WD40, or heat them up for a few seconds with a solider iron. That'll loosen them up, especially if they have threadlock on them.
