Default tail not staying stright

I have a msh protos and a trex 450. along with spartan gyros for both. when I try to do certain moves lets say a forward flip hard while moving forward, on both helis the tail kicks out to one side. Does this mean I have to turn the gain down a little bit. only fly in idle up, so my throttle curve is flat 90 on both. if it is not the gain, what else could I do to correct this problem.

Thanks guys

I would say kick the gain UP until you get tail wagging.

Turn your radio's rudder dual rate down quite low so that you don't have much pirouette rate. See if it still kicks.

I'll bet your thumb is moving over during the flips and inputting accidental rudder.

dual rate? You mean RUDD endpoints. That's what controls the piro/tail rate... try 90%

Dual rate also controls piro rate.

I set my end points (travel adjust) to 100% or 120% or whatever I feel like at the time, then increase/decrease dual rate as necessary to get the desired piro rate in a given flight mode.

You could even set an auto dual rate so that you have, say, 20% dual rate in idle2 for flip practice, and then 100% in idle1 and normal so that you still have adequate tail control when necessary.

Try putting 5 - 10% expo on your rudder which will help to not make rudder inputs while doing your flips ect... I have the spartan also and nothing budges it, and that's no exaggeration, it's the best thing I bought for my trex besides the Jazz. Running a govenore also helps a lot. Make sure that your tail belt isn't too loose. When I first setup the gain it was fine for hovering but I found that when I was making fast turns in ff figure 8's I was getting a reving sound from the tail, turning the gain down solved that problem. I have actually snaped my tail belt having too much gain with this thing.

Low head speed. Tail belt/pulley slipping. Insufficient gyro authority over the pitch slider.

OK.. am I correct .. with dual rates.. This is the basically changing the endpoints to 2 different settings using the switches? Nothing more?

+1 on the rudder expo. Since I put in some expo, I get a lot less unintentional tail rotation.

I guess you can think of dual rates as end points that are switch-selectable with preset amounts.

On most radios, you can set the end points and expo for dual rates. So you can use dual rates to have a low-expo mode and a high-expo mode (with or without different endpoints).

Some people use dual rates to have a high-expo and low-expo rudder setting. The low-expo is used for precision flying and the high-expo for more extreme flying. The high-expo setting lets you keep the tail straight through flips and rolls without being thrown off by accidental bumps in the rudder stick during collective changes. The low-expo setting makes it easier to do precision rotations at lower forward speeds.
