Hi everyone
Just purchased myself a 500ESP... damn I'm looking forward to flying that bird. Seen a 500 in my LHS but never seen anything bigger than my 450 fly! Anyhoo. Today I recieved a Futaba S9257 to upgrade my 450's tail from a S3153. The 500's purchase was totally unexpected, so now i've got to sort out a Gyro/servo combo. My plan as it stands in to get myself a Spartan and return the S9257 for a JR3500G (I can live with the 3153 being on the 450's tail a bit longer!). What do you guys think. Good idea? Any other recommendations gratefully recieved Cheers Steve

Hey,
WEll given you got the futaba servo to send back for the Jr sounds good plan to me Steve, id do that to, been honest with ya the 450 doesn't need a thats "much" of a servo, if you want a decent tail servo get the Hitec 5084 MG its all the servo you'll need, or for the same sort of money the Align DS520 is a great servo on a 450. i thought about the 9257, but went with a 9254 in the end. from what i've heard and read, you'll be happier in the long run if you can get the biggest, fastest tail servo on there that you can afford. i'm also running a gy401 and the tail is unbelievably solid with that combo, took a little dialing in, but extremely solid.

9254 and gy401 here too. Very solid and fast tail servo. A bit heavy but nothing a nice 2500 - 3000 mAh battery can't solve.

Cheers Alex, I did consider the 5084 for my 450
Thanks for comments guys. Looks like many of you are fans of the 9254/401 combo. I have the 401 on my 450 and yes it's a good gyro which I can't outfly at the moment. Thing is I'm looking for the adaptablity of the Spartan and need specific advise on a servo to partner it with on the 500. Spartan guys. JR3500G a good choice?

IMO the 9257 isnt strong enough for the 500....neither will the 3500 by that rule. They both have 2.0kg torque
The 3500 would be one of the best tail servo's for a 450. If you can afford it, try get a 8900G. Perfect for the 500, if not, then maybe the 9254. I currently have the 9257 and am looking to upgrade to a 9254 or 8900G or something along those lines.

I currently have a 9257 on mine with a 401. So far the tail holds no problem, but all I do is flips, and fast backwards flight. I was thinking would the JR DS3400G work better than the 9257 or the 3500G, because it has more torque? Has any one tried the 3400G? I have one laying around maybe I should try it

Quote:
No disrespect to you at all u know this why not find a servo to suit ability now and in near future if it were me i would go with a slightly cheaper option on the servo the Spartan is best your gonna get as a gyro so it will hold with a respectable servo of the right spec regardless, id be thinking that with the dogs servo you might well give it such a pounding by the time you really need the performance it had when new it wont have any left to give, just how i see it like i say if you can afford it then hey why not i would!, my plan is to drop the ds620 on the tail with either gp750 or the sparten the specs particulary the torque of that baby are more than enough

Decisions, decisions... been looking at the specs, price and sheer weight of some of these servos- Jesus, big mothers when you're used to 450 stuff!
Maybe budget is dictating here... Push the funds for a high end servo when I'm not into 3D yet, or go with something lighter and cheaper that'll get the job done. Need to think and it's hurting my noggin!

I would recommend getting stuff you know can handle hard 3D.
If you have good equipment your skills will improve dramatically and you will start to push the limits of your stuff. I went the other way buying cheap stuff not thinking I would need any better...big mistake, a waste of time and money.....and very frustrating. The 9254 is a really good servo and it isnt TOO expensive, cheaper than the 8900
